We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anna Basiladze. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anna below.
Anna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
During painting I don’t think how other will think of or interpret my work. In the moment the most important is to portray my intentions in my art. But I also enjoy seeing how spectators associate their views with my art. If my art made them stop even just for a minute, then my painting has served it’s purpose. The most important critics for me are my three children, they are the most heartfelt.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up among art and creativity. My father was a sculptor, I loved watching him work, observing how his sketches were brought to life as sculptures, this was magical for me. And to till this day this process amazes me in my own work. I am always searching and studying , overcoming difficulties is my favorite feat. Art was not my first choice, I decided to take on the medical field and the next year I switched to an Art Academy, following industrial design faculty. Design and art is one of the same for me. They complete each other in my works. Nowadays I am an art designer and I am working for leading Georgian wine and pharmaceutical companies as a graphic designer. Different types of tasks in design make my working process of creating wine labels, medicine packaging or illustrating books highly interesting.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Art is a force that makes you stronger and demands everything from you at the same time, you are in a creative exploration process nonstop. Art is everywhere, you just need to feel it and see it. Art is a necessity for me.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I choose to observe beauty, that is the reason I try to express beauty around us in my paintings and let others feel it, let them receive all the positive energy I put in my art. In my opinion, this is the best reword for an artist.
