Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ann Tillage. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ann, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At Sharmooz, we take pride in diverging from the industry standard by prioritizing luxury and quality above all else. While some brands may compromise on materials or craftsmanship, we remain steadfast in using only the highest quality charmeuse satin and silk for our accessories. This commitment sets us apart, ensuring that our customers receive products that exude elegance and durability. One memorable instance of this difference in action is when a customer remarked on how our satin accessories retained their luxurious feel and luster even after years of use, highlighting the lasting value of our brand’s dedication to excellence.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Ann Tillage, the founder and owner of Sharmooz Los Angeles, a boutique dedicated to crafting luxurious Satin Beauty Accessories. Coming from a lineage of seamstresses and entrepreneurs, I inherited a passion for fashion and innovation. My journey began when I noticed my infant son developing a bald spot from rubbing against crib sheets. Determined to find a solution, I created the Sharmooz—a Charmeuse Satin headrest. Its success among my peers inspired me to expand into adult-oriented accessories like satin pillowcases, sleeping bonnets, and fashion scarves.
Recognizing the limitations of cotton for hair and skin care, I made it my mission to provide a superior alternative. My commitment to using the highest quality charmeuse satin ensures unmatched comfort and style in every product. Recently, I’ve broadened my brand to offer a stunning range of dresses, jumpsuits, custom gowns, and more.
This is important that also set me apart from my competitors. I’ve been doing designer head scarves for 15 years being one of the first the upscale the hooded scarf and expand the use and quality of satin sleep products.
At Sharmooz, we solve the age-old problem of maintaining healthy hair and skin during sleep, offering a luxurious alternative to conventional fabrics. Our satin accessories not only enhance beauty but also promote overall well-being. With a focus on quality, innovation, and personalized service, I strive to exceed expectations and empower individuals to embrace their beauty with confidence.
Whether you’re seeking a solution for hair care, a touch of luxury in your sleep routine, or a statement piece for your wardrobe, Sharmooz has you covered. Experience the difference of satin beauty accessories at Sharmooz, and discover why our brand is trusted by discerning individuals worldwide.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building my reputation within the market has been a journey rooted in consistency. Over the first three years, I made it a priority to attend market shows, engage in social media blitzs, and actively participate in community events to maintain relevance and visibility. This dedication to staying present paid off when I began receiving testimonials from new customers, and an encounter at a market show solidified my brand identity. A previous client enthusiastically referred to my product not just as a scarf, but specifically as a “Sharmooz” – a moment akin to a brand becoming synonymous with its product, like “Kleenex” for tissues. This pivotal moment was just one of many that affirmed my growing reputation within the market.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
In hindsight, discovering reliable fabric and manufacturer sources earlier in my creative journey would have greatly expedited my growth within the industry. Recognizing the significance of quality materials and ethical manufacturing processes, I embarked on trips to New York and Los Angeles to secure reputable sources. Despite the challenge of finding satin and silk fabrics manufactured within the United States, I remained steadfast in my commitment to producing locally. By collaborating with local seamstresses and a manufacturing company in Los Angeles, I ensured that my products upheld the “made in the USA” standard, a crucial aspect of my brand ethos.
