We were lucky to catch up with Ann Konkoly recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ann, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I didn’t even know building a business was possible for me until I saw someone else as an example of what was possible. I took that and thought–if she can do it, so can I. If you’re starting your own practice, do not underestimate what your brilliance can create in time, so prepare yourself to go all in for the long haul. know that failures will be plentiful and use them as evidence that you are on your way.

Ann, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Certified Nurse-Midwife and Certified Life and Business Coach. I help Nurses live the good life so they can do good in the world and do well for themselves. I host a podcast and a group coaching program called Nurses Living the Good Life, and it is specifically designed to support women Advanced Practice Nurses who want to combine nursing expertise with coaching tools to create the new wave of healthcare, and this is what I am most proud of. We’re changing healthcare, one Nurse at a time. More information at www.annkonkolycnm.com
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Mindset and keeping your focus on the long game. If you allow yourself to get sucked into feeling terrible because a client didn’t sign or because you screwed up something important, it’s easy to quit. When you focus on the long game, I think it’s easier to manage the ups and downs that inevitably come with entrepreneurship.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Have conversations. Lots of them! I meet people for zoom coffees, in person coffees, go to networking events, participate in my professional orgs and continually look for how I can add value to the lives of others. I believe that in this way, I create a wake of impact and develop a reputation as an expert who is willing and able to help any Nurse. For any person getting started in a new business, I think this is an excellent method of organic marketing and can make the difference on how quickly one can grow.
