We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ann Floyd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ann below.
Ann, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
After doing so much wire-wrapped jewelry, I’ve realized that I could do so much more. So in 2020, I decided to take jewelry courses with professional jewelers and with GRS, a company who is known for engraving, providing amazing high-end tools for jewelers and also training people professionally when it comes to jewelry making. These includes stone settings, metal fabricating, fire-arm engraving and many more.
Ann, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So for the people who haven’t heard about my story, my name is Ann Floyd, I am a custom jeweler based in Missouri and the founder of Annollah Co. jewelry company. I was born and raised in the Philippines. I got here in the United States around 2015 and became a citizen in 2021.
Growing up, I always wanted to create or design, whether to design a house or clothes, I just want to design but unfortunately, I didn’t come from a rich family so my parents didn’t have the ability to send me to school where I could nurture that passion. So I thought that dream is just gonna remain a dream and not a reality to me.
2012, I met my best-friend, Shane Floyd. In 2014 we got married and from there, we started to build an amazing family! Definitely, an ultimate dream come true for me! Having him and my babies is an eternal blessing from The Lord and for that, we are forever grateful!
Like any other wife and mom, I wanted to really focus and prioritize nurturing my family, their well-being. I became a full-time mom and a wife. But 2018, out of nowhere, I just felt that something is missing, something is lacking, a purpose. I couldn’t understand what it was. Until one night, Shane came home from work and he’s just so excited, he said “babe! babe! look at this! You can definitely learn how to do this and I bet you’ll become good at it” and then he showed me high-end wire-wrapped jewelry pieces made by amazing artists all around the globe. My mind was blown away seeing these crazy works and I was just so inspired by these talented people!
That night, I started having a hunger to learn how to make these wire-wrapped jewelries. Every night, whenever everyone is in bed, I would go to my craft room and just study the process by myself.
I learned how to coil, I learned how to solder and make a frame. I had to learn all the process by myself because that was the only choice I had. Until one day, I was finally able to create high-end pieces for my clients.
I have created many pieces for many people, but one day, I realized that I can do more, more than just a wire-wrapped piece. I realized that I can expand my knowledge on jewelry making. So I started taking courses from professional jewelers and so with GRS community. I started engraving and got certified. I’ve learned to fabricate precious metals like silver and gold. I don’t claim to be The-Best on this area BUT I do know that everyday is an opportunity for me to learn things and grow my knowledge and experience, not just in jewelry making but most definitely in life.
I understand that becoming good/best on what you do doesn’t happen overnight. It takes discipline, dedication and it takes your whole-being to fight the dullness and really push yourself to keep goin, specially when it seems like what you’re doing doesn’t make sense anymore, you just gotta keep goin till the day when that door finally opens up before you! So just keep goin! Eventually, people will see the value of your hard work and will leave an impact to them.
I have created and sold many custom pieces, even globally, but for me, it’s not about how much I make out of a piece, it’s about the friendship I make and the impact we leave with each other when I collaborate with people on their piece. Every piece I create is unique because I understand that every client I get to have is very special and unique in their own ways. So my piece SHOULD speak to them and speak of who they are!
Everyone is valuable and precious and I long for my client to see that and feel that when I connect with them! They should know that they are a GEM, just so precious!!!!
For me, the best feelings I get so far when I create a jewelry piece is not the money I made, it’s about the tears of joy, tears of hope and inspiration I see from the eyes of people every time I hand them my work. That just move my heart so much! To me, you can’t pay for that!!!! No amount of money can buy that!! It’s just priceless!!!
With that being said, to everyone of us, there are God-given dreams and talents. Doesn’t matter where you at in life right now. There’s a purpose and a dream that The Lord planted in you even before you were born.
Jeremiah 29:11 He said ” 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.
If you allow God to speak, He will show you hidden talents you didn’t know you have and a passion you didn’t know exists.
My hope is that, through my work (making unique jewelry), I would continue to inspire and touch lives and that my work would continue to speak of The Lord and His beauty to people!!!!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Coming from a third-world country, I’ve witnessed and experienced so much poverty myself and when you know for a fact that there’s just no opportunity for you since you’re poor, that’s just heartbreaking. So through Annollah Co., My husband and I are hoping to give opportunity and extend help to people who needs it.
We see the possibility of this jewelry company making an impact to people, changing lives, even just one at a time. We want to support people. We want to support families who are in need of financial support so moms and dads can send their precious babies to school and to be able to provide food on the table. That’s what really Annollah Co. is about. Lord willing we can be like that to people.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
You know, I didn’t really build my audience myself. I’m just so blessed to be surrounded with amazing people in my life, my family, friends and community. All I did was put up a FB page and Instagram, I showed people what kind of work I do and then from there, all my friends took over, told everyone about my work, they invited people to like and follow my fb page and IG. My friends are really the ones that gave us audience on social media, thru this we also gained clients around the world.
My advice is just: Share and tell people about you and what you do. Be consistent.
