We were lucky to catch up with Ann Campbell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ann, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I was a stay-at-home mom and competed in triathlons for 25 years. Yoga was introduced to me by a friend and I fell in love with it. I loved the concept of mind, body and spirit. After so many years competing, it was a nice change of pace and much needed. Dennis and Kathy Lange (Yoga with Dennis and Kathy) were professional yoga teachers and I was fortunate enough to meet them. They thought I would be good at teaching and encouraged me. I was extremely apprehensive, as I was out of school for a very long time. I had my doubts. Dennis and Kathy encouraged me to try their yin yoga teacher training. Which I did and it felt amazing. Now it was time to find a place to take my 200-hour yoga teacher training. With their help, I went to Asheville Yoga Center in North Carolina; this course changed the trajectory of my life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The majority of my life I worked in the corporate environment in Human Resources and as a Recruiter. I left to stay home and take care of my 3 children. After competing in triathlons for 25 years, is when I discovered yoga and sound healing. I am a 500-hour Yoga Teacher (Asheville Yoga Center), 200 Hour Kundalini Yoga Teacher (Kundalini University) and a Sound Practitioner (Sound Healing Academy). Teaching yoga and providing sound/vibration is a passion of mine and I love the healing that takes place with clients.
During a sound session, different healing instruments are used. I have over 50 different types of instruments; gongs, crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, tuning forks, chimes and drums. Clients have reported a general sense of wellbeing, diminished aches, improved sleep and the ability to manage stress. It always amazes me, after a sound session, how the client looks so physically different – they are able to let go and just be in the moment. After providing a tuning fork treatment on a client, she reported less hip joint pain and less stress. I provide a calm, safe environment, where clients can relax and let go. I can combine sound with any yoga class which provides an added benefit.
Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness. It combines movement, breath, meditation and chanting. It deepens your level of self awareness and consciousness. There is an older student who attends my Kundalini classes. Her joints ache and she says after every class she feels fantastic. She never misses a class.
I can manage private sessions to large groups. I have offered yoga and sound sessions to yoga studios, corporations, retreats and special events.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Attending different stuidio/classes and experiencing different styles, techniques, stories and lessons. This expands my knowledge and makes me a better teacher, whether for yoga or sound.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Enjoying being an active participant in the community. I am genuinely invested in the success of my friends and colleagues within the yoga/sound community.
