We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ann Adams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ann below.
Hi Ann, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Yes, I am happier as a business owner. I’ve primarily been a business owner throughout my career, and I value the ability to shape my own future and avoid the uncertainty of being just another employee who could be let go.
Indeed, I do sometimes consider having a regular job. While I appreciate the independence of owning a business, I sometimes miss the collaboration with colleagues and the predictability of a regular paycheck.
Last time I considered a regular job was recently, as the real estate market has shifted and buyer agreements have changed, I’ve felt concerned about the evolving landscape of my industry. It seems as though the significance of our role in facilitating safe home purchases is diminishing. This uncertainty has led me to explore corporate job opportunities for the added security they offer, particularly to ensure a stable future for my family. However, I realize that corporate roles also come with their own uncertainties and do not guarantee complete security.
Despite this, I remain passionate about my work and the growth it brings. From owning a development company to becoming a TV host on a national show, these experiences push me forward. I am excited to guide people through investing, buying, selling, and developing their properties, and to meet new people while showcasing my beautiful city and its vibrant local community. I could never achieve all of this working for someone else, so I embrace the risks and continue to make it happen.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I entered the real estate industry in 2014, initially focusing on residential properties before expanding into commercial real estate. My background in forensic accounting and experience in landscaping and construction uniquely positioned me to assist clients with significant investments. Motivated by a challenging first home purchase, I aimed to offer a more knowledgeable and protective service to my clients.
I provide comprehensive real estate services, including residential and commercial transactions, land development, and project management. I guide clients from concept to completion, coordinating all necessary steps—such as obtaining board approvals, overseeing construction, and managing leasing or sales. My goal is to turn clients’ visions into reality and maximize their returns.
My distinctive blend of expertise in forensic accounting, construction, and real estate sets me apart. Additionally, my active involvement in local commercial networks and sitting on a commercial board committee at the Columbus Board of Realtors enhances my ability to deliver exceptional service. I ensure that every project is meticulously managed and that clients receive personalized, high-quality support throughout.
I am most proud of the dedication and care I invest in each transaction. My clients are like family to me, and I am committed to achieving their goals and ensuring their satisfaction. This deep, personal connection and commitment to excellence are the cornerstones of my work and what I want potential clients and followers to know about my brand.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Keep your team uplifted and support them through challenging times. Take on the burdens yourself when possible, but always ensure they know you have their back. Recognize and praise their hard work regularly, and make it clear that each team member is valued and irreplaceable.

Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses.
Yes, I acquired a franchise in the concrete construction industry, focusing on innovative, artistic applications of concrete. This venture involved turning concrete into natural stone walls, pavers, waterfalls, and koi ponds, which was both exciting and unique. I invested in training for my top employees across Ohio and showcased our products at garden shows.
Despite our creative success, the business faced challenges due to the high design time and costs compared to traditional hardscapes, leading to its eventual closure. However, the experience was invaluable, and I still take pride in seeing our projects around town.
