We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anmalya Delva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anmalya below.
Hi Anmalya, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
I have a great team, between my manager and agents. My manager, Sophia, however does it all and she’s great. She reached out to me to set up a meeting to discuss potential representation and we met over zoom. I chose to work with her, because from my research and our call, it seemed as though she forms genuine relationships with her clients and she does. She gives me advice on how to move forward within my career and has given me great opportunities so far. I think she chose to work with me because of my musical theatre background, as well as my communication style. I love talking and explaining everything and with doing that, it just makes everything run smoothly. I’m able to be very comfortable and transparent with her and it’s refreshing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Haitian-American actor, singer, and dancer. I started dancing when I was about 4 or 5 years old and my parents enrolled me in a dance school where I first learned jazz and then I expanded to hip-hop, fusion styles, etc. I competed at numerous dance competitions, all while playing soccer, which I also loved so much to the point that I thought I was going to play for the USA National Team when I grew up. Clearly, that changed. I was also a part of my schools’ choir at the time and participated in school plays and music competitions. Once I got to high school, I knew I loved singing, dancing, and acting. It was then where I discovered musical theatre, which allowed me to combine all three of my passions. Throughout the years, I tried expanding within my craft by songwriting, choreographing, and doing improv. I feel like they contributed to my growth as an artist. Once Covid-19 occurred, I took the time to do extensive research about the industry I wanted to pursue. I had no one to guide me, and with my background, none of my family members had been exposed to that kind of career field. I had to learn everything by myself and figure out how to get started. It was fun learning about everything and it inspired me to want to help others who don’t know how to get started. From there, I signed with my first agent and received amazing opportunities, which assisted in my growth in the industry. I’ve met amazing people along the way who I continue to learn from. With that, I realized I am most proud of my ability to keep going. No mater how hard it gets, and how unpromising it may seem, I keep going and continue to practice gratitude. I think that’s something we should all try to remember to do. We get tested during our toughest times, and if you keep going, you will see results. That’s our reward.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mom. She inspires me daily and she’s done so much for me. She’s really my best friend. She works so hard, so I want her to be able to enjoy a life where I can provide for her. So to really answer the question, my goal would be to retire my mom.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Networking is so important. I would meet people on set, at dance classes, or even singing competitions and other places growing up. I just made genuine connections. This was also during the time musical.ly was an app and I was constantly on it making content that showed my personality. My advice would be to create a platform that allows your audience to feel like they have a sense of who you are, allow them to relate to you. You’d be surprised just how you can inspire others. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet people through Instagram for example, who are just starting out in the entertainment industry and felt inspired just by what I post and I’ll respond and engage. I think it’s a beautiful thing to genuinely connect with someone through similar interests. As cliche as it may sound, just be you. It will go a long way.
