We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anjuli Garcia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Anjuli, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Naming a business is no easy task, and I wanted something that truly captured the spirit of what we’re all about. Studio Junk came to life during one of those late-night brainstorming sessions, where the coffee flows as freely as the ideas. I was reflecting on our mission to support sustainable brands, help clean up the world, and prioritize all areas of social impact through creativity and design, and it just clicked.
We live in a world that’s overflowing with stuff – so much of it unnecessary. The idea was to create a design studio that focused on getting rid of the “junk” and making room for what really matters. Studio Junk felt like the perfect name because it’s a little cheeky and a lot authentic. It speaks to our passion for sustainability, creativity, and making a positive impact on the world.
Our studio is dedicated to making a difference by supporting brands that care about the planet and society. We started with a focus on sustainable brands and expanded to include all types of social impact brands to empower diverse voices – whether it’s promoting social justice, supporting community initiatives, or advocating for climate action. In a nutshell, we’re here to champion social good through design.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative, for me, is witnessing the impact of my work and collaborations with clients. There’s a profound sense of fulfillment that comes from seeing how our collective efforts help build and strengthen communities. Whether it’s through a visually captivating design that resonates with audiences or a storytelling campaign that sparks meaningful conversations, knowing that my creativity has contributed to positive change is incredibly gratifying. It’s about more than just creating something aesthetically pleasing; it’s about making a meaningful difference in people’s lives and fostering connections that endure. That sense of purpose and impact is what drives me to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation in my work

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
he lesson I had to unlearn was the pursuit of perfection at all costs, particularly in my creative endeavors. For a long time, I held onto the belief that everything I produced needed to be flawless before I could share it with the world. This mindset stemmed from a desire to meet impossibly high standards and avoid any possibility of criticism or failure.
However, over time, I began to realize the toll that this mindset was taking on me. It was not only exhausting but also stifling my creativity and preventing me from fully embracing the iterative nature of the creative process. I was missing out on opportunities for growth and connection because I was too focused on achieving an unattainable ideal of perfection.
The turning point came when I started to prioritize progression over perfection. I began to embrace the idea that it’s okay to put out work that isn’t flawless, as long as it’s genuine and resonates with others. I started to view imperfections not as failures but as opportunities for learning and improvement.
This shift in perspective liberated me from the self-imposed pressure to be perfect and allowed me to approach my creative endeavors with more freedom, joy, and authenticity. I discovered that by embracing my humanity and embracing imperfection, I was able to connect with people on a deeper level and create work that was truly meaningful.
Now, I strive to balance my pursuit of excellence with an acceptance of imperfection, knowing that it’s the journey of growth and self-discovery that ultimately matters most. It’s a lesson that continues to shape my creative process and remind me of the beauty in embracing vulnerability and embracing the imperfect.
