We were lucky to catch up with AnjimPlays recently and have shared our conversation below.
AnjimPlays, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
There is alot of kind people who done nice things for me. I can’t name them all haha but I had people donate to be on my birthday. Along with other streamers being viewers to live stream. I had someone message me on a video game called Animal Crossing New Horizons telling that “I was the best streamer out there”. I was so happy at the moment and that’s why I kept streaming on Twitch. Another example is other creators giving me a shoutouts on their live stream and social media. Last year, I went to Conjustu 2022, I got a award for “Top Variety Streamer” that was the nicest thing someone done for me. Kindness comes from all shapes and sizes.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Anjim Plays) from Washington DC. Well I want to become a content creator and hopefully to become a full time along with being my own boss. Back in 2016, I start watching other creators on YouTubers like Nostalgia Critic ( Doug Walker), and many others while I was in college along with being unemployed. At first, I wanted to start a freelance company in helping me but I didn’t know how to begin a startup. I was tired of the corporate America and 9-5 rat race. During College, I wanted to become a Game Developer but I was bad at Math. As soon Google brought YouTube and creators started monetizing their content. I thought making a living of content creator doesn’t sound like a bad idea but I don’t want to do it for money of course. But I been passionate about video games throughout my life and want to express it to others. Being a person a color does have it’s roadblocks but I came overcome them with my content. I started creating content on Youtube and it was not the best at first. Throughout the years, i have learn to become better with being a creator. At first I was blogger that wrote about video games but I quit due to lack of motivation. But I use those blogging and writing skills for my website along with YouTube description. As Influencer, I want to steer people in a positive direction and put smiles on people faces. That’s my missions as a content creator who to create a safe space for everyone to be apart of.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
While I don’t have much of a audience on Social media but I am learning to growth. I know there is alot of bad apples on social media who have a opinion about you. I would say ignore those trolls who are jealous of your success. I have people in my comment section on my YouTube and social media saying negative insults. I am getting to older to address them and turn the other cheek just like Grandfather did. I learn alot from him about never to engage in meaningless drama. As for socials go, I doing pretty good on Tik Tok because I met some people on that platform. Tik Tok got a great algorithm for smaller creator like myself. USA is trying to ban this app but without Tik Tok, I would met some amazing people. Twitter and Instagram is very slow growth. When I start using Instagram, I gain alot of followers but after pandemic everything change in the platform. I started getting less likes and follows as well. Twitter other hand, I don’t get much engagement for other creators which is dishearten. I understand no one knows I exist and don’t care about my content. But I didn’t give up, I have to find the right audience who support me. There are so fake people and scammers on social media, I would say watch out those and support those who like your content.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
There is a value lesson I learn is to be yourself and don’t let other think less of you. Myself, I don’t want to copy anybody and become a bad influencer to others. My mom and dad taught to respect others with kindness. Treat people who you want to be treated.. I think there is alot of content creators out there who are 100% better than me. But I don’t get jealous of those creators, I wish them the best of luck and their goals. At first I had crabs in the barrel and was very anti-social due to be being bullied (verbal and sometimes physical) through my life. I had a hatred for people and felt like a outcast, there are folks who are nice and beneviolent out there. I was about to go on a dark path but people in my life help me overcome negativity. I was about to became a shut-in for the outside world but I didn’t. That’s why I am pushing positivity, I don’t want to become a monster and someone people hate.
