We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anjaneth Aguirre a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Anjaneth, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I started doing nails at the age of 13. My first clients were my family, and friends later followed. My very 1st real client that wasn’t related to me was at the age of 15 while in high school. I charged her $25 to do a full set (acrylic nails) with designs.
It took me 4 hours to do it (LOL) but it got done. She absolutely loved her nails. But now that I think back, they were a hot a*s mess.
I was excited because I couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting to get better and better.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started doing nails at the age of 13 in Brooklyn, NY. Growing up I never stopped doing nails and did them on anyone that would allow me to.
I went to College and made money on campus doing nails. After college I worked within the social work field, but I wasn’t full-filled. I decided to go to nail school and get my nail license. By the age of 30 I started the process of opening my nails salon with a partner.
My products of choice that I cannot live without is the Apres Gel-X system. This system allows me to achieve the long sculpted nail look without having to use acrylic and deal with fumes. Also, lessons the amount of filing I have to do.
Over the years I have focused on perfecting my craft. I’ve perfected the foundation of manicures (which allows the nail to have longevity) and the nail art which is the icing on the cake. I’ve spend countless hours studying different types of art, and how I can’t get it on a small nail.
Because of my dedication, and work ethic, I’ve never had a shortage of clients. Thank god! Im able to stay relevant and popular because I provide my clients with a sense of calm in knowing that they can sit down to get their nails done without the hassle
Of picking a color, and picking a design. My clients can fall asleep while I’m working on their nails and wake up happy with the outcome. I’ve proven to be trustworthy.
Consistency, trust, privacy, passion, and effectiveness have helped me grow within the ever so expanding nail industry.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I opened my second salons in 2018. I was so excited because I had found the team of nail techs that the needed suceed. Everything seemed to be going great until were forced to close for six months during the pandemic. When the ban on salons was lifted we were so busy. But those 6 months did us in and we were forced to close our doors.
I went into a depression because I felt like I had lost all the things that I had worked on. But, money had to be made so I decided to start doing mobile visits and started saving. Eventually, I decided that I was tired of going to 3 homes a day, and so I started taking clients from home. I also got a full time job.
Eventually, I ended up quitting my job because nails started booming again. I also wanted to get agency representation so that I could get more celebrity clients.
Im so happy that I quit my job to something that I love doing. Nails come as 2nd nature to me. I now have representation and my business has great ever since.

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?
I have to quit my full time job, so that I could take my nail business to the next level. Quitting has proven to be successful.
