We recently connected with Anjail Wilks and have shared our conversation below.
Anjail, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I found so much humor in this question. Because starting out my entrepreneur journeyvacations and personal time was the last thing that was on my mind. I had a mission and it was to build my brand up andd at the time what I thought was the right way I found myself feeling burnt out and was losing myself because work had taken over my life. Once I was able to find the balance that I was looking for I realized personal and vacations and self-care was very valuable to my lifestyle and in my career. I soon learned that it was ok and no one could make me feel bad for taking time off to regroup recharge and refocus.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m A 33year old young black women that is the owner of Night Night Nanny Academy which is a Licensed Family childcare that provides quality care for children ages 6weeks to 5yrs old. I also own Night Night Nanny Weddings & Events in which we provide care in the city and surrounding area for weddings and events for your guest to relax and enjoy themselves and we handle the kids we bring activities for the children and fun and games. Night Night Nanny Memphis Elite Is also a Nanny company that provides care to some of Memphis Well known Elites where care is provided in the comfort of their home also travel if needed .
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Jumping starting my childcare business was not easy. I didn’t have funding or loans I nannyed and said up every dollar I was getting because I knew I had a goal and it was to open up my own childcare facility. It took a lot of discipline and sacrifices I missed out on a lot but it was all worth it.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
All money is not good money one of the biggest lessons I had I learn. I was to stuck on just wanting clients and not realizing that some people just don’t fit your brand and things you are doing and it’s ok .
