We recently connected with Aniyah Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Aniyah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Creating content makes me extremely happy. Its just as rewarding as any other job I could have right now. Being that I have experience working a “regular job”, I don’t think I’m missing anything. I know eventually, I will commit to additional career paths, but I never plan to stop creating. As a content creator I’ve not only gotten to express myself and build a community but I’ve learned so much about professional development.
Aniyah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Aniyah, and I am a 20 year old model and content creator currently based in Washington, DC. I’ve developed a platform of over 35,000 supporters across Instagram and TikTok where I share all things Beauty, Lifestyle, and Creativity. I think the biggest thing that sets me apart is my relatability. I make sure everytime I post I remain true to the values I hold as a person, and I’m realistic about my lifestyle from sharing college content/advice to the job I work part-time. A majority of the people who watch and interact with my content are young girls. Its extremely important to me to make sure I take strides towards giving them the represenation they deserve and the mentorship many of us needed when we were younger.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience through sharing my personal interests. Social media and content creation has always been a hobby for me. I started with YouTube in middle school, posting room tours and vlogs. It wasnt until my senior year of high school that I decided to turn some of my passions into a “job”. I started a graphic design business, where I made intros for youtubers and social media flyers for small businesses. Then I eventually began participating in gifted collaborations my freshman year of college. Though I started with brand deals on Instagram, my tiktok page took off September 2021 after posting a viral makeup and hair transformation video. Once I realized just how many people connected with my hobbies, I began to post there more consistently.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a content creator so far has been seeing how many people I’ve positively impacted. There are young women who reach out everyday speak on how they have learned from me, felt seen by me, or even view me as a “big sister”. Receiving messages from them truly motivate me to continue.
