We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aniya Tribble a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aniya, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
In the very beginning of the pandemic, I thought it would be a good idea to make a substantial investment in my catering business. I wanted to gain more exposure, so I decided to pursue a booth at a farmer’s market. I thought securing the booth would be relatively simple but, I was wrong. The process was extensive and complicated. I needed to obtain several different permits and licenses. After being stuck in two contracts my bank account was hemorrhaging! It was clear this wasn’t the right move for my business. Hindsight is 20/20. In 2020, many hard lessons were learned and a lot was lost. I learned to never put all my eggs in one basket. I also learned just because someone tells you something doesn’t mean it’s true.
Aniya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Aniya. My company Katie’s Soul Kitchen offers upscale catering services for all events and gatherings. Here at Katie’s Soul Kitchen, my clients’ needs come first. What sets me apart from my competitors is that I offer quality services. We only use the finest ingredients and to top it all off, it’ll be at an affordable price.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I invested the initial capital for my business by working hard. Sometimes, two or three jobs at a time and simply saving. I believe it’s necessary to work hard for what you want in this life.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
I would say the pandemic helped exponentially grow and destroyed a lot of businesses. My business took a huge hit during this time, but thankfully I was able to recover. The phones started ringing again when clients began having events that needed to be catered. I am hopeful and trust that Katie’s Soul Kitchen will continue to thrive in this competitive field!
