We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anita C Powell, Msc.D. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Anita C, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
The pivotal moment in my professional journey was inseparably linked with my personal growth. In 1998, after dedicating 19 years to a local Corrections department and spending much time in prayer and reflection, I made a life-changing decision. I left my stable job on a wing and a prayer, transitioning from being an employee to embracing the uncertainty of a solopreneur. This leap, though both exhilarating and intimidating, was necessary for my growth in faith, trust, and love—for myself and for others.
Before I left, I was advised to keep the door open for a return in case things didn’t work out. While this would have made my transition easier, I knew it would be a choice driven by a lack of faith. Since stepping away from the comfort of traditional employment, I’ve been blessed to learn that perception is key to shaping our reality. I discovered that our beliefs, often unconsciously, manifest in our experiences and influence the decisions we make.
Through this journey, I’ve learned that challenges are opportunities for soul growth, and life is a continuous path of self-recovery. By deepening our self-awareness, we cultivate a deeper love for ourselves and others, building a foundation for inner and global peace. There have been collaborations, negotiations, organizations; we have the United Nations. It’s time to #jointhemovement #spreadtheword individually to increase the peace by elevating thought awareness and becoming more mind-aware of the vibration we resonate daily. As Jill Jackson & Sy Miller so beautifully wrote, “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” True empowerment and authentic living are rooted in knowing oneself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a joyful mother of remarkable twin Daughters, blessed with wonderful Sons (in-law), and a joyfilled grandmother of five incredible Grandchildren. As the founder of the TAPN2U Movement, LLC, I’ve spearheaded companion initiatives like the Global Sister Peace Partner and the #jointhemovement #spreadtheword campaign. Partnering with others to increase global peace is very important to me. Described by others as a Thought Leader and Humanitarian, I’m an Energy Enthusiast, Poet, Author, and Metaphysical Educator; a Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Cause) recipient and a Doctor of Metaphysics. My core belief is God first, Family second, Career third and that everything is energy—it’s the force that drives change, and we, too, are energy. Everything Naturally Engage, Resonates, and Gravitates towards the inside of You ~ ENERGY.
In addition to my work in Metaphysics, I advocate for Michigan Unemployed Workers, serve as a Rare Disease Awareness Advocate, and Human Rights Consultant. I also founded a non-profit organization, Empowerment thru Spoken Word Poetry – TAPN2U, which focuses on cultural arts, particularly poetry and prose.
My journey with Metaphysics began in the 1980s, although unknowingly, the philosophy, discipline, and teachings have been within me since childhood. Since Metaphysics is such a significant part of my life and who I am, I’d like to share a bit about what it encompasses: Metaphysics is within the broader scope of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). To summarize, Metaphysics is about understanding the deeper connections we share with the universe, nature, and each other. This desire to explore these connections led me to Metaphysical Science, which has since become more than just a field of study—it’s a way of life for me that I passionately share its philosophy with others, who are receptive to receive. Metaphysics is a discipline that encompasses philosophy, science, religion, and spirituality, focusing on cosmology (the universe), ontology (nature), and epistemology (our limited knowledge of our connection with the universe & nature). It looks beyond the physical, delving into the root causes of disharmony, and recognizing that true harmony is found within, as we are all one with God, nature, and each other.
My creative works, which include books, wearables such as T-shirts and wristbands, are designed to increase inner and global peace, and help others raise their vibration to “Vibe High.” The #jointhemovement #spreadtheword T-shirts and wristbands feature copyright quotes such as “It ain’t the thing…it’s how You look at it” and “Manifestation is in the Belief.” These phrases were given to me by the Universe during a very low and fearful time in my life. They are intended to foster thought and mind awareness, encouraging individuals to meet with and embrace their fears and shadows, as this is all part of the journey to self-awareness, acceptance, and self-assurance – the Self Recovery continuum, with an outcome of experiencing more inner contentment, joy, and happiness.
What sets me apart is that this work is not just something I do—it’s a way of life for me, a commitment I’ve held since the 1980s. I’ve been blessed to design programs that are tried, true, and proven to support others and myself on our Self-Recovery and Deepening our Spiritual Journey.
I work with individuals, generally those 50+, who are eager to understand themselves more deeply and explore their soulful, Spiritual essence. These are people who recognize that there is more to life than what meets the eye and who seek to be more in control of their lives, experience greater joy and happiness, and share knowledge with others. They are humanitarians, conscious of the world’s challenges, and they believe that the peace they cultivate within themselves does contribute to peace in the global community and as such, are on a quest to increasing the peace within. Quoting again Jill Jackson-Miller and Sy Miller, “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.” I believe this cannot be said enough.
I am very humble and grateful for my family and the strong bond we share. I am blessed to have been receptive to the lessons life has offered and to continue to have the opportunity to pass on what I’ve learned and am learning with others. Albeit some lessons I’ve had to experience more than a few times until I got it. As I approach my 68th year around the sun, I am deeply honored by the journey I’ve undertaken and will continue to pursue. I wish to continue to travel the world, having had the incredible opportunity to visit Thailand, Egypt, and Albania to share the TAPN2U Movement concept. I was recently honored with an invitation to Albania (sponsored by Prof. Dr. Shpresa Delija and Filara Publishing), where my book, “YOU ~ Your Own Universe, an introduction, was launched and translated into Albanian. I also had the privilege of sharing insights on Energy Principles with the faculty and students at Tirana University. It gives me great fulfillment to serve others and to know that my work is making a positive impact on their lives. It is truly humbling to understand and know that the greater part of me can shine forth from me.
The most important message I want to convey with my SoulBeautiful Sisters and Brothers is this: You are Beautiful, inside and out. You are both human and Divine, within you are both imperfections and perfection. Learn to tap into the magnificent power within you! Be mindful of your thoughts and beliefs, for not everything we believe is beneficial and all it takes is an awareness of those beliefs to transform them, as you live LIFE (Love Imagination Faith Expression) expressing the attributes of the Universe (God, Higher Self, whatever term you use)…Love.
I invite you to #jointhemovement and #spreadtheword. Within you flows your own universe, intricately intertwined with the Infinite Universe. How amazing is that?

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn is that to find God is to go outside of me.
The Backstory: A Foundation in Spirituality
From a young age, the conventional religious teachings never quite resonated with me. I struggled with the concept of God being somewhere in the heavens, depicted as a “He,” while I was born a “She.” This made me question my worth—did being female make me somehow less? Was I born erroneously? I vividly remember, at age 16, I was walking and talking with “God.” I asked Him could He see me? Why was there so much pain and suffering in the world? How am I to connect with Him? With billions of people on earth, how could He even know I existed? These questions went unanswered and I remember experiencing the emotions of loneliness and confusion. Growing up, when a conversation about religion came up, I would often say, “I’m from Missouri, the show-me state. God’s gotta show me.” It wasn’t that I had anything against the concept of “He,” however, I just couldn’t comprehend the assignment of a gender pronoun to an all-powerful entity. I questioned…Are men powerful while women are not?
In my quest to understand my relationship with God, I along with my brother explored various religious paths. For me, this journey included Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism. Through this exploration, study, and research I began to understand the history of the concept of God. I learned that God is Spirit and the Hebrew word for Spirit (Ruach) is “Breath…Wind” (one could say Energy). Studying biblical history, I learned that women were not considered equal to men, and that actually the pronoun of God was conceptualized around the 5th Century BC. Before then, there was unity in everything ~ God, Nature, the Universe.
Ultimately, I came to realize that I am a “Religious Pluralist” and in my quest continuum, I find a common thread: God lives within each of us, and we are connected with God, as God is connected with us. As Prophet Khalil Gibran wrote in a poetic stanza, “we are in the heart of God”. We are co-creators, made in the Divine image of Spirit – “Energy” (the capacity to do the work; the ability to change things).
In the 1980s, I was introduced to Metaphysics, which provided the answers to my childhood questions. To summarize: There is One God, we are connected with One God, and God lives within us, as we in God —all of it is Energy, Beautiful Powerful Energy. This philosophical ideology made it clear to me that I am seen by God because God is within me; is within you. The pain in the world is not created by God, but by us, and we have the power to recreate the reality of our world; #jointhemovement and #spreadtheword.
In 1998, after I left a 19-year career on faith alone, I began to truly experience what faith (and the absence, lack of it) is. I started to experience my connection with the Universe, Nature, and others—realizing that I had always been connected. I began to see that challenges and painful moments were actually moments of growth, pushing me to the next phase of life…a Blessing. This was not God punishing me. Situations and circumstances are the result of choices I made, they are lessons, teaching me about myself, to gain in human understanding, and these opportunities (lessons) continue to assist in my understanding. I’m learning that Life is such a comprehensive teacher if we pay attention. Hindsight is a beautiful thing and is an ongoing learning…Foresight is about trusting, having faith, and using intuition, logic, and common sense. Being Self and Mind Aware.
For me, “God” is Spirit (Energy) —the answer to all things, living within me, living within you. We, living in Spirit. True validation originates from within, with external confirmation serving as secondary support. As my mother. Patricia Louise Johnson taught her children, “people cannot create our happiness; they can however enhance our happiness”.
Letting go of old beliefs has brought a profound sense of freedom. I am not alone, and neither are you. Wherever we are, the Power, Presence, Love and Essence of Spirit is with us, as we are within Spirit. God, Infinite Spirit is Everything…including He and She, and we are created in the image to express the attributes of Love (God), while serving self and others.
I learned however we define God is a Beautiful thing. This is a personal, intimate relationship we have with Him, Her, It. I learned the bottom line is trusting, and believing as the Great Metaphysician Yehoshua said, “if only the size of a Mustard Seed with no inner doubt”.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that what helped me build my reputation in the market was my unwavering commitment to my creed: God First, Family Second, and Career Third. This guiding principle has truly kept me more times than not, humble, and sure. I don’t see a distinction between our professional and personal lives—they are one and the same. Our character, creed, what we value are seen in every interaction, whether in a professional or personal context. Similarly, our beliefs are evident to ourselves (if we pay attention) and others by our actions; be it in a personal or professional environment.
I firmly believe that “Your Word is Your Bond” is fundamental to maintaining a strong favorable reputation. For example, keeping a price once quoted to a client or customer, even at a personal loss, demonstrates that people come before profit and trust is gained and earned. There were times when I had to absorb a loss due to misquoting, but I never changed the agreed-upon price. Through these experiences, I did learn the importance of considering all factors before quoting a fee. These challenges were valuable lessons that helped me see the bigger picture and weighing all factors.
Today, having a Sustainable Branding service is more important than ever. Consumers are increasingly attentive to how business owners and entrepreneurs contribute to the community, whether locally or globally. It’s about putting people before profit. This doesn’t mean profit isn’t important; it means that passion comes before profit and part of those profits are reinvested into the community.
Blessings Peace & Love
