Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anita Alberto. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anita, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I was a single parent working at a grocery store full time. I started studying photography for fun. I enjoyed photographing people and was asked to photograph a small wedding. Without hesitation I said yes. It was an amazing experience and confirmed that I wanted to pursue a business in photography. I had a lot to learn. I took more photography classes and quickly started to build my clientele. I also began networking with other business owners. I had been in business for about 8 years and was struggling with working at grocery store and building my business. I had a meeting with a business coach and we discussed taking my business to the next level. I needed to take the leap and leave my secure full time job with benefits to do this. I was able to take a 3 months leave. I was quite surprised that my co workers were not so sure about my decision and many of them said I would be back. I took the 3 months, then another 6 months and then I quit. My business flourished when I was able to focus on it 100%. I really took a leap of faith and worked hard and believed in myself. I have now been in business for 20 years,

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a photographer who specializes in headshots, family and events. I have a very calm nature and I love creating a photography experience that my clients enjoy. What I hear most from my clients is that they hate getting their photo taken. After our sessions my clients always comment on how easy I made it for them. I model the posing and direct then in a natural way. I am honored to photograph my clients special events and memorable occasions. The best part of my job is meeting so many interesting people and hearing about their experiences or businesses. I am always so proud when I see a website with my work or go to a clients home with our photos. I deeply believe their is so much value in photography. It holds memories, love and accomplishment in the form of a photograph.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I completely believe fortune is in the follow up. I love keeping in touch with my clients. I see the value in touching base with them a couple times a year. I send out a quarterly newsletter and I also make it a habit of telling my clients what type of work I am looking for. For example if I’m at a family sessions I mention that I am looking for corporate clients for headshots.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is knowing that I have capture a moment in time. I often think about how amazing the invention of photography. I love serving my clients by working with them to create beautiful photos of their beloved family and help to create an enjoyable photography experience.
