We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anicka Martin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anicka below.
Anicka, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope to leave a legacy of love behind me. Love is at the center of everything I do and all that I am. I love what I do and I am so grateful to create. I am a formulator and I hope to add solutions that improve people’s lives.
Anicka, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello Hotties, My name is Anicka Martin and I am The Self-Care Phoenix.
I am a public speaker and self-care advocate in sunny Phoenix, AZ who owns Eneka Elements, a local and legendary self-care boutique. I do public speaking on topics of self-care and how to improve the quality of your skin and hair care routine. I focus on bringing vitality to dry skin and hair while focusing on the importance of minerals like magnesium and MSM.
I have been highlighting the benefits of sustainable beauty routines locally. It has been so refreshing being able to speak in my community about what I love. I am an advocate of having moisturized skin and hair in desert environments. I had to create a line to reflect it and Eneka Elements is a Brand that reflects ways to get holistic and sustainable beauty products that solve real problems. We focus on using aluminum packaging and paper whenever possible. Being in the garden really is a blessing to be able to get a first-hand look at the power of plants and mother nature. We advocate a lot for organic ingredients and promote community gardens as a place to gather and promote unity.
Creating Eneka was about remembering to take a moment for self-care. I was a new mom that forgot that it is ok to take care of yourself and do a healthy self-care routine. I love motherhood and had to find how to tend to myself with as much joy and care as I did my son. Me time can become we time. Now my son and I enjoy “Mom and Me Self-Care Routines” from foot soaks to yoga. Mindfulness and taking a moment to remember how important you are can be the most valuable part of self-care. I really emphasize that taking the moment is just as important as what you choose to do with it.
At events, we focus on not just offering a great product but providing in-depth knowledge on how to use products more effectively based on their lifestyle. Eneka Elements uses high-quality ingredients to offer self-care solutions. We focus on dry skin and desert skincare. Our famous “Me Time Revolution” is about remembering your worth no matter how many times you may or may not forget. Rise as many times as you need to like the Self-Care Phoenix. Representation matters and healthy products from businesses run by people of the African Diaspora are vital. All complexions of color are needed in business and beauty. Fully embracing all skin and hair types is the future of self-care.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Quality products are a foundation and we stand out in a crowd visually too. It does help that I wear golden Goddess crowns at my events and my personality stands out as much as my products do. When Eneka Elements has an event it is important to shine and to have a website that is unique and customer friendly to back it up. It is fulfilling when our customers can easily buy what they want and move on with their lives. When you are able to choose what you want from a website and check out quickly and easily it promotes return customers. All this saves you time for self-care. We like to say it starts with a moment and if we can promote it by how we operate it is a win-win situation.
We also believe in cutting-edge content. If you have legendary content people will remember it. We focus on solutions with our products. For example at a self-care show we did recently we had our Cocoa Soap in the bathroom for attendees to try. A customer ran to my booth to let me know how smooth and soft their skin felt. They told me they have never tried a soap that did not dry them out or one that did not need lotion or cream to be applied after using it. It was a big moment. Solutions will have people coming back and telling friends. That day 3 people bought Cocoa Soap due to hearing her story and experience alone. I am a big fan of listening to what my customer really needs and what they feel is missing in the beauty industry. Plus, African Black soap is a great solution for people with sensitive skin which is why it is in our Cocoa Soap. It is unique because it is a foaming version of African Black soap that is gentle and moisturizing.
Being in local places allows the community to connect with you and your products easily as well. We have recently connected with Pomegranate Cafe to promote our holistic brand and sustainable focus starting with our Sea Spray in aluminum spray bottles. When you network and connect with similar businesses it can help boost your reach and increase new revenue for all involved. It is about the organic situations that can result from networking locally. Never forget the value of offering to teach a class on your mastery and pay it forward. The opportunity to speak in a public forum or add value to someone’s life is priceless.
It is so important to let people know you and your business exist and what you stand for whether it be through social media, pop-up shops, or business events in person. A bonus is if you can get photography done to reflect the quality of your brand. It is key to have professional-level content to share with the media and editors. Consistency mixed with quality products/services will have people seeking you out.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Our Newsletter Eneka Avenue is a big part of how we connect with our customers and foster brand loyalty. We enjoy sending out self-care tips and how to use everyday ingredients in your kitchen to increase self-care practices and wellness. It is about making a difference in people’s lives. It is not always about the money. It is about the moment.
Taking a moment for self-care means a lot. When you do you shine. You can’t truly help others until you help yourself. Having business cards and information for our customers helps them to remember us and our focus. We repetitively say “Legendary Hair and Skin for Women & Men” and we provide that with our products. Letting people know your tagline regularly is a good practice for any business. Let people know what you are about. Our products are made for relaxation and for self-care. Whether it be taking care of your hair and using some Tea Tresses rose spray or relaxing in a bath of Eneka Salt. We believe when you get “ME Time” everyone wins.
A big part of my brand is the feeling of W.A.S.O.W. Women Aggressively Supporting Other Women. I think gathering a solid following of women and customers who not only support holistic businesses but also those who support changemakers in the community is vital for my brand growth. Know your target audience and mine are powerful women. The women who raise families and communities are my foundation. Don’t be afraid to let people know your brand story including villains and heroes. Our villain is dry skin and dry hair as well as stress. Being a brand that is based in a desert they are important to highlight. We aim to moisturize and relax our customers.
Our heroes are Magnesium, Shea Butter, and our various Eneka Elements products that provide everyday solutions to those in need. It is about taking a moment for self-care first and then doing something about it. We value health and wellness and focus on moisturized skin and hair with a dose of relaxation via bath products and minerals. We call it “ME Time” My Eneka Time.
Never underestimate the value of groups on social media. If you are in a forum that is a good fit for your business you will be connected with those who may need what you sell.
