We were lucky to catch up with Ani Agassi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ani thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
This is a hot topic!
I’m all about mental strength and growth!! I believe that globally implementing mindfulness education into the curriculum is essential to prepare students for a fulfilling life and career. Countries such as England and India have already recognized the value of teaching mindfulness to students, as it helps develop emotional intelligence alongside academic skills. Being present, calm, and in control of our emotions is extremely important in handling challenging situations and for overall well-being. Consistent practice in mindfulness helps us think clearly and boosts creativity.
Reflecting on my own experience in college, I recall the stress of balancing multiple studio classes and not knowing how to help myself when my body was overwhelmed. If only learning about emotional regulation had been a part of the curriculum, I could have better managed my mental state and avoided burnout. The ability to control oneself is essential to thriving in any career, and mindfulness education can equip students with the necessary tools to do so.
Moreover, I believe that learning about brain function/development, and neuroscience is crucial. Applying this knowledge can help us dramatically improve every aspect of our lives from personal to professional. We can’t grow and improve if we don’t know how our system works.
Ah there is so much!!! Providing comprehensive education on science, technology and creative thinking is also super important, especially given the pace at which the world is advancing. I mean, AI is already here. Hello! Are the schools catching up?
It’s also crucial to teach students about financial literacy, which includes the psychology behind money. Many schools do not prioritize teaching students the skills needed to manage their finances effectively and having a positive attitude towards money, which can have long-lasting impacts on their financial well-being.
Another area that schools should focus on is healthy eating and exercise. Healthy body, healthy brain, healthy thinking! Incorporating these habits into the curriculum can have significant benefits on students’ physical, mental and overall brain health. By teaching students about the importance of exercise and healthy eating habits, schools can help students develop lifelong habits that will benefit them in all areas of their life. Physical activity can also boost creativity and improve cognitive function, making it an essential component of a fulfilling life and career.
Having outdoor classrooms would totally change game! Nature plays a significant role in our lives, and there are countless reasons why we should stay connected to it. Research has shown that spending time in nature has numerous benefits for our physical and mental well-being. Exposure to nature can improve our mood, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and even strengthen our immune systems.
There are many problems in the educational system in the US. Many American critics believe that the major problem with public education is a lack of focus on results and academic performance. Recently, I have been observing and reading about a radical gender theory that has been introduced into public schools across the US, exposing young children to ideas that encourage them to question their gender identities, often with life-changing and irreversible consequences. Many teachers and administrators, motivated by ideology, promote radical gender theory despite widespread skepticism about gender identity curricula and practices in schools. Parents are often kept in the dark or pressured into affirming their child’s claimed gender identity, and school policies often advise teachers not to share gender-related information with parents. I am not going to get too deep into this but I personally know some parents who have expressed concerns about schools interfering with their children’s focus, mental health and performance due to the emphasis on gender identity and sexual orientation. While I understand the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students, I believe schools should focus on academic success, problem solving and mental/emotional/physical strength to help students navigate through and keep up in our fast-changing world. The world needs resilient generations, not ones that are lost in confusion and stress.
Ani, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My passion lies in the creative industry, which is why I pursued a BFA in Graphic Design with an emphasis on Entertainment Design. Although I found fulfillment in my corporate and freelance graphic design work, I yearned for more creative freedom and excitement, which led me to transition into the world of video production. The move required extensive effort and dedication, with me committing a significant portion of my time to developing the necessary skills, including camera operation and software proficiency. Since then, I have worked with some of the biggest entertainment companies, and have had the privilege of working with the most talented and skilled professionals and some of Hollywood’s most known figures.
When I get the “what do you do?” question, I oftentimes say “depends on what day of the week”. But it’s not just sass – it’s the truth! My passion for creativity has led me to direct, film, edit, do photography, design, and paint – all of which I use to make a living. While my career has mostly focused on video production within the music/entertainment and fashion industries in recent years, I’m excited to expand my services to individuals seeking personal photo and video shoots. If you’re interested, hit me up! :)
What sets me apart from others in the industry is my versatility and my willingness to constantly learn and grow. I am not afraid to take on new challenges, and I invest countless hours into perfecting my craft, whether that be through mastering new gear, lighting, software, or business strategies. Additionally, I have a keen eye for detail and a unique artistic vision when it comes to lighting and color. Equally important, I value my interpersonal skills, which allow me to genuinely connect with my clients and deeply understand their needs.
I take great pride in my work and my team, and I strive to ensure that every project is executed to the highest standards possible.
Overall, my brand is about inspiring others to realize their full potential, embrace creativity, and find joy in the beauty of life. I believe that anything is possible with effort, dedication, and a positive mindset.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My driving purpose is to inspire others. I firmly believe that success leaves clues, and my goal is to leave as many clues as possible for others to follow. If I can make a positive impact on even one person who comes into contact with me or my work, I will die with a sense of fulfillment!
