We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anh Huynh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Anh, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The idea of our business came as I was watching an award show where celebrities would do a high speed slow motion video on the red carpet. I thought the videos were so entertaining that even the most famous celebrity would enjoy this. While looking into this device, I stumbled upon 360 videos at smaller events like birthdays, graduations, or weddings and thought “WOW” this is a very cool concept for smaller scale events. We did a lot of research on 360 booths and how to start a small business in the photobooth industry. Our first 3 months, we sought out opportunities within our inner circle and offered our services for free as a way to promote and also to understand the needs, behaviors, and preferences of specific clients. We spent that time to learn from our each events and how to perfect it even more for the next. Our first year of business we exceeding our expectations in bookings, but we also noticed that we had a lot of requests for your traditional photobooths with the print strips. My husband took up photography courses and learned the in/outs of how to take stills versus what we learned the first year. We were able to expand and offered more options for our clients to pick from when reach out with an inquiry. Word of mouth works great for us thus far in the events vendor industry and if not all comes from this avenue or from meeting people at different events we worked at.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Anh Huynh, a mother of two energetic toddler girls, a full time Nurse Navigator at the number one oncology hospital in the nation, and the founder of OneFlash360 Photobooth where we offer a cutting-edge photo experience that will leave a lasting impression on your guests. Our 360 photobooth and standard DSLR digital/printing booth are the perfect addition to any event from small house get together to large wedding and corporate events. We believe in the value of capturing the magic of the moment and also capturing how much fun your guests are having on your special day.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients really is word of mouth or client referrals. I pride myself on exceptional customer service and networking with the other vendors at the bookings. By us being there to assure that your rental with us is smooth as possible from the first email correspondence to the tear down process/follow up. Word of mouth goes a long way in almost all industry but when you are planning an important event for yourself and others, you want the best but also someone that you and your can guests can enjoy working with.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Two of our team members unfortunately had to depart the business with my husband and I as one moved away for medical school and the other one is working towards his CPA degree. My husband and I had to pivot when this occurred as we also have two young toddlers at home, but thankfully we have an amazing family that will drop anything to help out with watching our kids. We just had to be more prepare in advance for bookings and had to pivot our schedule around a bit to make the business work with only half the man power.
