We were lucky to catch up with Angie Thompson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angie, thanks for joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My hero would be my Grand Mother, we call her ‘Wemaw’. Since I was a child, I’ve always known I was different. I have always surpassed my peers mentally. She made sure that I knew that my mindset and heart was a gift and that it should never be tainted, played with or taken for granted. I learned to always be resilient, move with passion and always support and protect those around me. My wemaw was a flower child and apart of the infamous group known as ‘Black Panthers’. Although the media painted them out to be against the people, they were really protectors and providers of the community in which they lived. They understood that no matter who was against them, as long as we stand as one, we could never fail. I make it my duty to ensure that the work places I develop stand in unity, trust and respect for each individual. In return, making the company as a whole unstoppable and well protected from the inside out. The influences of my grandmother gave me the courage to be able to stand up for myself and the strength to empower those around me to do the same. I know a lot of people may think that these things are minor or unnecessary. They aren’t. These are things that people look over and miss in the process of building SOLID foundations. If you don’t have the backing of the people you work with, what happens when a piece of your foundation leaves? The whole project goes down.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Angie. Most know me as Angie Bee. I’m a simple girl with an amazing brain. I got into industry business by becoming a manager at one the the WORSE club venues I’ve ever seen, but it opened up a door of opportunity and gave other people a chance to see what I could really do. I started by helping a friend build her business from a stand still point. I created procedures, policies and made sure all things flowed smoothly. It became a nitch for me, and when I released myself from working in her shadow, her company could not uphold on its own. That’s when people noticed that my talents, knowledge and gifts were valuable and could be a reliable asset to their companies. I make sure I study and apply. My studying goes past just books. I study people. I study moves. I study the game of the greats that came before me and made a name for themselves and other people. I look at all things from all stand points. Something most people can’t do. I am very proud of how far I have come in only a year. I’ve helped people flourish in ways they didn’t even know they could. I’m always happy to see those I work with move up the ladder of success. I genuinely care to see those associated with me, win. When you win, I do too. I’ll never place anyone in a position to dim their light.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honesty and loyalty. In the music industry, there are so many people watching you waiting on you to make the wrong move. I came in as myself. I will remain myself. You attract more bees with honey. I live by that code. Im very nice, I’m very understanding but I’m also not to be played with. I stand on my morals at ALL times.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
They all found me. When people see your work ethic and how genuine and pure you are, you’ll attract what you need. I’m a person of light. I stand tall in my truth, but don’t get me wrong, I’ve come across some terrible situations, but I came out victorious in the end. That’s how they found me, by watching me stand on business. Literally.
