We were lucky to catch up with Angie Pedersen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angie, thanks for joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
It’s not so much an experience at a specific job. Over the course of my professional life, I’ve learned the value of adaptability and resilience. You never know when you’re going to have to pivot – whether into a new role in your current job, or into a new role or industry. I’ve had multiple professional “lives,” and they’ve all led me to where I am. They’ve all fed into being in a place where I can now pursue my own path, instead of just following what was put in front of me.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I didn’t start out as a strategist, or even a marketer. I started out as a web content writer for my own website. After a few years and several websites, I became an author. I wrote three books that encouraged people to document the stories of their lives. Those books are where the marketing came in. My publisher was small, so there was no marketing budget. So, I researched and taught myself internet and social media marketing, grass-roots style. And grew my following to over 3,000 regular readers. All by myself.
I parlayed that experience into offering marketing consulting and then went on to work as a web content writer at Sprint, a senior social media strategist at a pharmaceutical digital marketing agency, a senior content strategist at a safety science corporation, and a senior corporate communications strategist at a consulting engineering firm.
Through these marketing roles, I found my passion for content marketing more specifically. I’ve discovered it’s the perfect role to help fulfill my purpose of empowering others through the resources I create, as well as my values of making an impact and interacting and connecting with others with empathy and compassion.
Now I’m a strategic content consultant, trainer, and speaker. After 15+ years of leading content at billion-dollar brands, I now work with marketing leaders to identify content gaps, use AI strategically, and train and empower their teams.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After my third book launched, the industry shifted, and my book promotion team no longer prioritized getting my books in stores. I lost most of my book sales overnight. I recognized that all my experience in the industry – attending industry trade shows and working with retailers – still had value. I began working with small manufacturers on their marketing. I created trade show press release kits and online press rooms. I also taught them about blog marketing, which was still in its infancy at that time. This grass-roots marketing experience put me on a path to becoming a marketer, working with billion-dollar brands.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I left my job in corporate marketing in 2024, I did what most people do – applied to every job opening that seemed like a good fit. I reached out to former colleagues, attended networking events, and kept applying for jobs for six months, with only one phone screening to show for it. I came to realize that it might be time to reinvent myself again, and began to build my own business. Over time, my focus has evolved to strategic content consulting, training and enablement, and public speaking.
