Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angie Noblejas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Angie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think you have to be resilient, agile, and personable to be successful.
As I am coming up on being almost a year out of graduating college, navigating the fashion marketing world and finding a full time job has been very difficult.
I have experienced and seen how terrible the job market is and what I would say is the most essential thing to keep in mind is that it will all work out in the end and you just need to keep pushing forward.
After getting ghosted and or denied from a job many times, my mental health and motivation to keep looking went down. My number one priority was to get a job, and when I centered my mind and life around that, I lost sight of my worth and skills that I knew I could bring to the table.
Resilience is key because when I shifted my mindset to think any rejection is a redirection, I felt so much more confident and better mentally. It is a cliché thing to say, but it 100% true looking back at my experience.
Also, I believe the fact that I was personable with my team and made sure that my team felt supported as an intern with REVOLVE, gave me a reputation and which traveled through the company and ultimately led to a co-worker on another team suggest I apply to the job which I currently have!
I have a mindset to always treat people the way you want to be treated, and to be a person that your team can rely on getting the work done while putting 110% of your effort.
Angie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In high school, I was a brand agent for Hollister. with that job, I was able to see and fall in love with the fashion marketing industry. I really got to see the behind-the-scenes of this world, and completely fell in love with it. At the time, I thought I was going to be a photographer, but then I realized I wanted to be an advocate and represent my culture community as I didn’t see many cultures were being represented at the time in the fashion industry.
After gaining skills and insight about how to execute and create creative/activations, I knew this was the industry for me. Fashion is really special to me since I would go to the mall and shop with my mom growing up. I felt that putting a good outfit allowed me to show who I am. I knew I wanted to make a difference and be a part of the change to make the fashion industry, inclusive, and make people feel beautiful for who they are.
Which led me to major in business administration, with an emphasis and marketing minoring in advertisement at Chapman University. There I was able to gain a lot of experience through internships whether it was in fashion or marketing.
If REVOLVE did not come to Chapman for a career fair, I would have never been able to talk to the recruiters and create that genuine relationship. After talking to the recruiters, they asked if I was looking for any opportunities to work with them, and I gladly said yes. Soon after meeting, I followed up, applied, and git accepted into to their internship program with their Retention Marketing team the summer I graduated college. After the initial three months of interning with them, they decided to renew my time with them twice. Then a colleague of mine recommended me to apply to a job on the International Marketing team.
Now at my job, I am able to take the skills I learned from all of the different parts of marketing, that I was exposed to from my previous internships. I would say having internship experience in any industry you prefer to work in is crucial, or at least have the ability to apply the knowledge and experience you have to align with what is needed for the job you are pursuing.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Since I graduated in 2023, finding a job was very difficult. there were times that I casted my net to weide and was straight up asked by a recruiter “Don’t you want to work in fashion?” since I was applying a job that was in the banking industry.
Then I realized I do not want to settle for a job that’s not in the fashion industry. Therefore I found myself refreshing every job posting site with the keywords: fashion marketing.
There was one job that I met all of the requirements and qualifications. On paper the position and I seem like like the perfect fit. I thought all of the interviews went well, and when the recruiter asked to talk after my interview, with who would’ve been my manager, I thought she was going to offer me the job. I was ready to negotiate the package and was confident they were going to offer me the position but they did not. their reasoning for not hiring me was that I “lacked passion for social media.” Then I took the feedback very personally, and I was rethinking everything. I thought to myself: “Do I have a passion for social media?”
The hard thing about postgrad is coming to the realization that the world is your oyster. You can pivot as much as you want. I knew that I do have passion for social media. maybe they didn’t see it, but I know I have it. planning out strategies to create authentic brand love from the customer is is so cool to me and I want to help people feel confident and love their bodies. Social media and marketing are someways that affect people for the greater good or the greater bad. I hope to create a social media presence for any client I represent. I want to create good buzz that helps both them and their customers to feel good.
Being resilient in this situation helped me reinstall confidence into myself. it gave me the motivation to keep looking for a job in team that appreciates me and the work that I produce. Which led me to keep pushing and land the job that I have today. I get to work with an amazing team that sees my value and trusts me and my work ethic.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think that my ability to be genuine with others, has helped build my reputation within this industry. I seek to have everyone’s opinions be heard to truly work as a team member within my team. I also love analyzing and picking up patterns within the fashion community. During my free time, I like to walk around the mall and observe what’s trending. It’s interesting to me what trends come back, and how history always tends to repeat itself in some sort of way.
I have been told that people remember the way that I make them feel. I always try to be a good listener and teammate with whoever I get the pleasure to work with. I think remembering small details about the people you work with makes a huge difference and tells them that you genuinely care about their well being. Also, I love both of the creative and analytical side of marketing which helps me see and help my team in many different ways.
