We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angie May. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angie below.
Alright, Angie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My husband and I and our 2 kiddos lived in Phoenix for 11 years where my husband was a college basketball coach. I had just finished my masters in counseling when he lost his job. After a year of being out of coaching, he got a job offer in Oklahoma City. In reality I needed to get a job asap to help with the move and bills. Having my masters in counseling and my certification in the Enneagram personality assessment I took the risk and started my own coaching company. I never dreamed in a million years I would run my own company and it actually be successful. I had a family that didn’t just want this to be successful, we needed it to be successful. I have always heard the saying, “with little risk, comes little reward”. This was a huge risk and it was well worth taking.

Angie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Angie May and I own Kairos Koaching. I started my coaching company after graduating with my masters in counseling. Shortly after graduating, I was introduced to the Enneagram Personality Tool. One of the things I am most proud of is the personal work that I did using this tool in order to grow and learn to lead from a growth space.
I work with clients one on one where I help them realize where they are stuck and how to identify old beliefs that hold them back and replace them with new ones. Understanding ourselves on a deeper level helps us to recognize our motives and move forward in growth. I often say, awareness is the key to everything. I help my clients become fully aware of the things that keep them from their desired outcomes whether personally or professionally.
I also work with groups, company’s and organizations when it comes to staff and leadership development. I am launching my own Enneagram Certification Course that has been in the works for the past year.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to drastically pivot in my business when Covid hit. My one on one client base dropped drastically and I had to figure out what was next. We cannot always control what happens to us in life, but one thing that I have learned and teach my clients is there is always something we can control. We have to find what that is. During Covid, I could control my ability to deep dive into learning, researching and preparing for when I started to see clients and conduct my workshops again. As I did, ideas and dreams for my own Enneagram Course began to come alive. We have been working diligently on our course so that other coaches and professionals can utilize all that we learned and created to help others on their journeys. Change is not always a bad thing; we often have to reframe in order to find the good.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
95% of my business is referrals. I believe when we personalize someones plan in order to meet their needs, that will always duplicate itself. There is not a one size fits all in this industry. When you are helping people through trauma, addiction, struggles, emotions and habit change, everyone is slightly different. When you listen and take that person’s story into consideration as you walk their journey with them, your referral base will grow.

My Financial Services business has just completed an Enrichment seminar led by Angie May. It has been so beneficial for my team of myself and 5 team members. My agency named it “Journey Towards The Top”. We checked Dr this name because we realized that the Journey is much more valuable and beneficial than any destination. Angie was fantastic as our coach. I believe Our team will continue to use her teachings throughout this year and following years.
