We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angie Kantor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angie below.
Angie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
Thank you so much for having me. The key steps that allowed me to move beyond my idea was to have the courage, the support and to have the time. Starting anything from the ground up is never an easy task especially when you are trying to create something unique and one of a kind. I always had dinner parties and had a natural talent to create beautiful spaces but when COVID hit and all of that went away I realized how much I really loved and missed it. That is when I created Angie’s Tables. The initial concept was to have a full tablescape in a box for a client who would have everything they need to execute a beautiful tablescape for their home and for entertaining. I was successful for two years but it just never took off the way that I had hoped and then we moved from NYC to Florida and I needed to reconfigure my company. Today I am an Event Designer of Orlando who will travel to help create beautiful and memorable events and parties for her clients.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Of course. I was born in Canada and moved to the USA one month after 911 to pursue my dream of being on Broadway. That dream came true and I was fortunate to be on Broadway & TV & FIlm for over 20 years. Throughout those years I also had a not for profit theatre company called WAT Project where I learned about producing productions. I also created a production company called Awaken Entertainment where we produced some Broadway Musicals and Plays and lastly I created a film company called Vision Vehicle Productions where we created several featured films. I’ve also been a director/choreographer to leading stars on Broadway such as Kristin Chenoweth, Cheetah Rivera and Hugh Jackman to name a few. When I decided to become a wife and mother I decided to hang up my dancing shoes. I am now a mother of three children (with only two pregnancies) who keep me running non stop. But I have always had a full plate and love to work. I need creativity in my life and Angie’s Tables has given that to me. Plus I love to work with people so it’s truly the best job out there. I cannot wait to create the next party!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I LOVE a dinner party and actually created a super club called DINNER CHEZ-NOUS. My favorite thing about a dinner party is the time that I get to be with the people I care & love. I also LOVE to cook so it’s a gift I get to give my guests. In saying all of that, I realized that when I would have my dinner parties so many of my guests would say “How do you do all of this? Where do you get your ideas from? I couldn’t do this!” And so they DON’T’! That crushes my soul. So I created Angie’s Tables to help everyone, to inspire and encourage them to host that dinner party. I like to take things to the next level and elevate my parties and I always have a party favor. Not necessary I know, BUT I know that my guests took the time out of their schedule to be with me, had to get babysitters, maybe bought and outfit and got hair and make up done… and I NEVER take that for granted as I am beyond honored that they said yes! It’s my way of spoiling those I love! Plus, my wish is to bring back the DINNER PARTY!!!!!!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The one lesson I’ve learned is that people will always try to steal and take your ideas and I’ll be honest I initially had a real difficult time with this. I know of a person who created a fake account and would see all of my stories, then interacted with some of my customers aggressively and then took ideas from me without giving credit where it was due. I saw red! BUT there are so many creatives in the world and the mountain is big enough for all of us to climb and to get to the top! With time and confidence, I finally found peace with it. PLUS the one thing that keeps me going and striving for more is that NO ONE IS LIKE ME! And that makes Angie’s Tables even more special!
