Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angie G. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Angie , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I have always known that I wanted to share my creative talents. This was a skill that was nurtured throughout my childhood. Makeup and modeling came in to play specifically while I was in college. I joined a modeling troupe in my university and started modeling with them. When I graduated and moved back home I continued to pursue modeling. I worked part time at sephora as a cashier seasonally and that’s where the love for makeup flourished.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m a Miami based makeup artist and model. My makeup style is enhanced natural, I feel like I specialize in bringing a glam look that enhances a person’s natural features. As a freelance model my portfolio ranges from natural hair focused modeling, to lifestyle editorial looks. I am always open to trying new things and I love bringing in different makeup looks for inspiration in my shoots.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think that society can support artists that may not have the huge social media following or the heavy hitting brand deals. Support those makeup artists, models and content creators that are just getting started. Those artist are the ones that stand out to me because they’re pushing themselves everyday to create and showcase their talents no matter what.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think that non creatives look at the modeling industry as something that is vain and self centered. This causes, in my opinion and experience, people to have certain views on a person. The reality is that you should always get to know a person truly before you have those assumptions about them. Yes this industry is focused on a person’s looks about 90% of the time, but think of how much pressure that person has to deal with, to always be “picture perfect” . As far as makeup, not everyone uses it to cover up their authentic self, for some it’s a creative outlet as well, a way to reinvent themselves and a true art form. A lot of people tend to not understand that and speak negatively on makeup and those that choose to wear it.
