We were lucky to catch up with ANGIE FROEMEL recently and have shared our conversation below.
ANGIE, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I very first decided that I wanted to start a wedding planning business, I took a wedding planning certification class at the nearby university. In that class, the instructor advised picking a name that was high up in the alphabet, so it would be listed first in directories. I gladly took that advice and came up with not only a name that started with an “A,” but “Ab” – Absolute Wedding Perfection! It was such simple, yet effective advice.
ANGIE, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When I established Absolute Wedding Perfection back in Knoxville, TN in 2008 I wanted to offer couples peace of mind on their best day ever. I believe a couple should be able to be relaxed and enjoy their wedding to the fullest, while someone else takes care of all the details.
After graduating top of my class at West Virginia University (Let’s Go… Mountaineers!), I spent 7 years as a local news producer in Knoxville. I discovered that planning, coordinating, and directing, whether it’s a live newscast or the perfect wedding, is my specialty!
For more than a decade my professional wedding consulting services and extensive contacts with local professionals has allowed AWP to support brides and grooms throughout their entire event planning process and seamlessly assist them on their wedding day, no matter the budget.
When I first started the business, it was just me, planning and executing all aspects of every wedding day on the calendar. But now we have a team in both Knoxville and Charleston, SC! I personally plan and direct all the Charleston weddings (hello, beaches), while also planning all the Knoxville weddings. Then my right-hand woman takes over anything that needs to be done in-person in Knoxville (dreamy mountains), such as meetings and of course wedding days.
From creative and memorable ideas, to making sure the entire day is organized down to the minute, and even including all set up and clean up, we strive to make sure every aspect is taken care of so couples actually get to relax.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think being able to keep a small business afloat during a pandemic that literally banned what we do (gather for weddings) says it all. That was an insane several months of canceled and rescheduled weddings… and the trickle effect is still being felt today. But we needed to be there for our couples and help them make informed decisions based on the changing facts, so despite no longer bringing in any income for several months, we knew it would shake out in the end, so we got through every reschedule and cancellation step by step.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my business and life was making the decision to move from Knoxville, TN (where I had started and built up the business) to Charleston, SC. It was something that was right for my family first, but also turned out to be a great move for the business. About that time, AWP had enough weddings on the books where it was becoming more and more clear that one person could not plan all of the events for 40 hours a week, and then also work them on the weekends. So, I decide to hire a day-of coordinator to take over on wedding days, which allowed me to plan the weddings full-time, from anywhere! It was a great way to grow the business and create a team of wedding planners, while still taking great care of our couples.
