We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angie Dee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angie below.
Alright, Angie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Our Beginnings: Audience of One Productions began with the vision of having Broadway quality theatre available in Wilson County.
I was teaching a drama class at Heritage Christian Academy. I gave an assignment to my students to give three insights into a dream they had. #1 What was the dream (it could be anything…even if it was out of reach)
#2 What was an obtainable version of that dream?
#3 What is your action plan towards that dream?
That is how I became the founder and director of Audience of One Productions. My students turned the questions back towards me.
I said, “well, I have always dreamed of directing on a big stage in New York…but I live here and my life is full and wonderful”
They pressed further… “Ok, but if you aren’t able to do that what is an obtainable version of that?”
I said, “Well, there is this beautiful theatre, Capitol Theatre, in Lebanon, that would be fun to do a big Musical on that stage.”
#3 “Well, Mrs. Angie, what is your action plan?” … I looked back at this amazing group of students and felt something was about to change in my life.
That was a Friday. I scheduled a meeting with Danielle Peircey on Monday and the rest is history…
I walked into Capitol Theatre and envisioned talented young actors performing Broadway shows on this remarkable stage. With a dream and the help of the Holy Spirit, My dream began to take flight with launching Audience of One Productions, an Educational Theatre Program doing Broadway level work.
Audience of One’s first production 2015 Into the Woods followed by sold out productions of Beauty and the Beast and A Christmas Carol Musical 2016.
Our Growth:
The summer of 2017 was a huge success with our first Jr. Show: Peter Pan Jr. Broadway version followed by the outstanding 10 show run of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! Our busy 2018 season of shows included Singin’ in the Rain, Little Women, Seussical Jr, West Side Story, and Mary Poppins. This incredible troupe continued to dazzle audiences in 2019 with She Loves Me, Newsies, Shrek Jr. and A Christmas Carol Musical. Although we had out challenges, along with the rest of the world, we continued to provide a space for creatives to thrive. In 2020 through 2022 we produced: Guys and Dolls, Willy Wonka Jr., Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast Jr. Grease, Addams Family, Matilda, On the Town, Lion King Jr., and Into the Woods…rounding off this season with our Christmas show, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
We have also expanded our programing to a second tier: Capitol Players Pro, a regional theatre. On the Town and Into the Woods had full orchestras and professional actors working alongside of our students to create Broadway level performances right here in Wilson County.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I grew up playing sports: mainly softball and riding competitively in Hunter Jumpers over fences. My world did not allow much time for the arts. In college I began to study theatre arts. I loved it but I was on a softball scholarship and that schedule kept me from being in to many shows. I continued to train, take classes and explore as I was able to. I enjoyed my time in a Improv group in Atlanta. Did some stage work but mostly spokesperson modeling, commercials etc.. Writing scripts was my favorite passion and performing my therapy. I have trained with Tom Todoroff acting studios, shared the stage with amazing artists but my passion is directing.
I have written and directed/ performed numerous original works before moving into the Broadway Musical genre.
. Starting Audience of One Productions was something I was lead to do. I love teaching actors how to see themselves through the eyes of greatness. An actor has to look through a different lens. Our educational program teaches actors how to explore life through the page. They are the most courageous people on the earth… allowing the story of story of the human heart.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a director of theatre is designing a show and watching it come alive with each component of design. I begin by reading the script multiple times. Seeing the story and all of the aspects of telling the story comes alive to me. The set design is the foundation for my blocking the actors…the costume design and creation help inspire great work from the actors. After the show is cast and I have all of the actors in the room, I begin to feel the details and they inspire me. Lighting design and sound design are an intricate part of the show.
I work with an amazing team of people who are extremely talented in each aspect of the show. From our music directors, to choreographers to stage managers…it is truly a team effort.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal for Audience of One Productions is to have a fully funded Regional Theatre were artists can thrive. We began as an Educational Theatre Program doing Broadway level work. That mission will not change but we have added an new mission: To give professionals a stage to thrive on as well. We are expanding Audience of One to have a second tier programing, Capitol Players Pro. This dream has a pretty hefty price tag. It is my dream to have paid actors and live pit orchestras for our Regional shows.
I have professionals contact me on a regular basis who love what we do at Capitol Theatre and want to be apart of it.
