We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angie Contreras. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angie below.
Angie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
Pistil’s workforce is without question its most valuable competitive asset, comprised of a group of people who are enthusiastic about what they do and want to better our physical environment so that future generations can work, live, and play there.
We are a company that provides opportunities to minorities. 80% of our coworkers are women from all over the globe. Our core principles are diversity, integrity, and equity; We recognize that these serve as the basis of our company and allow us to develop both individually and professionally.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Our story begins when the pandemic began, and we took advantage of the opportunity to launch our own business. We wanted to emphasize where we started the business, Flower Mound when we came up with the name of the firm.
Women run, lead, and support our company; in fact, all of our managers are female!
We started with two people and have grown to have more than 30 talented and enthusiastic employees from all over the world. We are jeopardized by cultural variety, which we value and protect above all else.
We are a skilled team with extensive experience in providing integrated design execution services from project conception to conclusion.
The Historic Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, situated on Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was our first customer. We were honored to provide the documentation of the existing historic facades used to solidify their designation as a historic landmark, dating back almost 100 years to the day of the Tulsa Race Massacre.
From there, we strive to provide professional consultation to up-and-coming black entrepreneurs, from restauranteurs to Wine enthusiasts like Pur Noire in downtown Houston. Our company was born from the pandemic, inspired by the BLM protests in the summer of 2020, to deliver projects on the side of the working class fighting for equality and change.
We utilize our skill sets to serve the underserved and include a vast array of techniques and experiences that benefit people of color.
We are excited to be in the presence of greatness and will continue to advocate for business owners and opportunities that have been so difficult for so many for so long.
The spirit of Greenwood guides our business decisions. We aim to be a resource for you as you navigate the often systemic challenges of property development and building.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
First of all, for the most work performance and the output need to be outstanding. Then on top of that building a sincere relationship with client by putting efforts above and beyond. Then there will be trust bonding between. Once client is satisfied they will spread the word. This was actually happended so many times. Even we received calls or e mails saying that my existing clients referred us to them. Also, a lot of clients came back to us with their other projects.
Any advice for managing a team?
Communicationa and trust. We have open dialog chat for team besides project related. We would like to encourage our team for their own career development and celebrate their life events as well. We share their life stories as well. We have a meeting with project manager level regularly but also with designers as well. Check and follow them with their reveiws to support to achieve their goals.
