We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angie Clancy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angie below.
Angie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
We own a small market and bakery in Rosebud, MO. We got a call, from a customer , she wanted to order one of our gooey butter cakes. She explained that our cake was her son’s favorite dessert. He had joined the Marines, right out of high school, like many of his family members have done. Which touch me because my father was a Marine and served in WWII.
They were giving him a going away party and when they asked him what he wanted he said a Gooey Butter Cake from Clancy’s. We were so honored.
When she came to pick up her cake, we gave it to her at no charge. To thank him for his service.
He has been in to visit with us several times. When he is home. His mom has kept us updated on his progress! Last time he was in he was in full dress uniform and we were so honored to have him visit us!
It’s the small connections in life that can make a big difference!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a self taught baker. One of 4 girls. Married my high school sweetheart 42 years ago! My grandmother was a baker by trade. She was well retired by the time I came along! She passed on her love of baking to me! I would spend hours with her in her kitchen in Clifton Ave. overlooking the park. So many memories were made in that kitchen, & wonderful baked goods! I would wait patiently while she would fry donuts. She would lay them on a towel for me to roll in the crystal sugar dish that had a permanent home on her stove top! Right there is where I fell in love with baking and serving others!
Fast forward 50 years and here I am in Rosebud, MO. Imitating my beloved Grandmother.
It’s been quite a journey getting here though. My husband Matt & I both have been in the food & service industry all our lives. We owned and operated Clancy’s Irish Pub & Grill in Ellisville, MO for 40 years. We learned a lot through the ups & downs, high & lows of the restaurant industry.
After Covid we were burnt out and wanted a simpler slower paced life.
We moved to Rosebud Mo & opened a small Market & Bakery on our driveway! We built a steel building and away we went!
We are passionate about food and derive! Our motto is fresh, local & seasonal. We try to provide a unique shopping experience for our customers!
We both feel that what we offer is unique and personal. People are important & everyone who walks through our door is greeted & treated with respect. It makes a huge difference. We like to connect with people! When you do you realize just how much we all have in common.
What we sell is special! Most everything is hand made by ourselves or sourced items that we love and use ourselves! We provide as many Local items we can and live supporting small businesses like ours!
We have never been happier! One piece of advice I could give is don’t give up on your dreams! The road is long and winding. But you never know where it will lead you! Things may look different & actually be different than you expected but being able to adapt is the key to success

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We opened our first market in Rosebud in 2011. It was in and old building that used to be a church! We started in 2006 with the remodel. We were living in west St. Louis county at the time, spending the time we could away from our business to fifnish our Rosebud project. We had always wanted to open a small market and were excited about the future. We remolded the upstairs into a loft apartment for us to live in, sold our home in town & lived full time in Rosebud.
We opened the market in October 2011. We were chugging along enjoying every minute of country life!
In 2016 our business in west county needed us! And we needed to make a decision we didn’t want too. We decided the best thing was to close the market, sell the building. It was hard but we knew it was for the best. We had to let go of our dream but it ended up being the best thing for us. After we got things back on track Rosebud was still calling our hearts! We bought a beautiful 100 year old Craftsman home of our dreams and opened an even better market in 2021!
It was so hard to close our business but we had faith that it would all work out and it did!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My husband is from a long line of business men. He was raised in his family business, Clancy’s Butcher Shop. They were located in Ellisville. He learned the meat trade along side of his 7 brother and several cousins! He has a magnetic personality. If I tell you, he has never met a stranger , I mean it!
I have learned so much from him and his ability to talk to people.
That is the difference in our market and one of the reasons people come in again and again.
We also love what we sell. The recipes are the ones we have used for our family gatherings the ones we use when we entertain!
The products are the ones we use! We stand behind everything we have in our store!
