We were lucky to catch up with Angie Bizon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have wanted to explore this path for quite some time. I always gave excuses as to why I couldn’t get to it “right now”. Too busy, not the right time, I don’t have the funds, were just a few of them. The more time passes by the more those excuses turned into frustration with yourself. Some life changes later, I have surrounded myself with some pretty amazing people, old friends and new. I was finally “sucking it up” in an airport terminal with 3 great people expressing “what’s the worst that could happen?” Since then I haven’t looked back. I try to apply to any creative community event. The lessons I have learned along the way have been invaluable.

Angie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, I’ve been creating art since I was young—my dad taught me how to sketch, and from there, my love for drawing and creativity just grew. I’ve always been drawn to “out-there” styles, leaning toward a trippy kind of realism. It’s morphed into incorporating the universe in all of my works. I had done some commissions throughout the years but never had the confidence to go further, last year in particular I have really opened some doors for myself and started to end my fear with getting involved in community events. It has really worked well for me. By far my most popular items are my hand painted hats. I have had so many people that have enjoyed them!
I’m also an adventurer at heart. I love being outdoors and exploring, and I’m always looking for ways to combine my passion for adventure with my art. I aim to inspire others to see the world—and themselves—in a new light. I feel like I have found the way to marry adventure and creativity with the hats that I have been doing. Some commissions that have provoked some strong emotions and it has been a pretty amazing experience.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I would say the most rewarding part of being a creative is sharing it with others. Even if my style isn’t for everyone, people have expressed complimentary remarks. Seeing someone get stoked about a hat I did for them definitely hits huge in the emotions. Not only do I get to create and have new streams of ideas going, I get to inspire others.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to inspire other through my artwork. I am an avid adventurer. I truly feel that even though I’ve only just begun this journey, I have already inspired others to do the same and have something unique to boot.
