We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angi Klick a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Angi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
We cater to women in all phases of life but many of our women are in the 40-50 age group and experiencing the bodily changes associated with perimenopause. In addition, they are navigating major life changes, often raising children, working, and giving back to their communities. One such athlete, January Hodges, is a good example. As a working mom who travels often, she’d always prioritized fitness, but as she hit her late 30s and early 40s, her body just stopped responding the way it used to. What worked for years suddenly wasn’t enough. She had to completely rethink her approach—becoming way more intentional about how I train. That meant shifting to activities like the She Tris—running, swimming, and biking—along with HIIT training. But just as important, she needed a community and events to keep me accountable and motivated.
Triathlon events like She Tris have reignited her passion for competing and helped her regain both her strength and confidence. At first, her goal was simply to finish. Last year, she wanted to podium. Now, she’s chasing that trend and pushing even further.
To every woman fighting the changes that come with aging—rethink what it means to be healthy. Be intentional, adapt, and find a community that keeps you moving. Give yourself something to chase, and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Founded in 2016, She Tris Triathlon was created to break down barriers and make triathlons accessible to all women. By providing a supportive and welcoming environment, She Tris encourages women to believe in themselves, embrace their inner strength, and achieve what once seemed impossible.
She Tris Triathlon, an event created by women for women, is more than just an event—it’s a movement of empowerment, encouragement, and breaking barriers. Founded by local athlete and entrepreneur Angi Klick, She Tris offers a welcoming, supportive space for women of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to challenge themselves in a triathlon designed just for them.
With an average of 300 participants at each of the 6 events around the Carolinas, She Tris is encourages women to take the leap—whether they’re seasoned athletes or first-time triathletes.
“She Tris is designed with women in mind, creating an approachable and empowering environment,” explains Sarah Hays, Co-owner and Champion of Enthusiasm of She Tris. “The distances are intentionally accessible—featuring a pool swim, a non-intimidating bike course, and a beginner friendly run course. The events welcome mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and friends to share in the experience together, proving that triathlons aren’t just for the ultra-competitive—they’re for every woman who wants to push her limits and have fun doing it.”
“We started She Tris to give women a space to try something they never thought possible,” said Angi Klick, Founder and Champion of Confidence of She Tris. “So many women put themselves last—whether it’s their career, family, or other obligations. This event is about putting yourself first, proving to yourself that you are strong, capable, and that you belong.”
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth from happy participants is how most new participants find us.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020, along with the rest of the world, we had to pivot to virtual events. We did group challenges and eventually virtual triathlons (which we still offer to this day). In order to build some loyalty and community with our ladies we created a private facebook group to stay in touch with them and we also created an online merch store – all of these were new to our business in 2020 and still exist today!
