We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angenae Parker-Wiley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Angenae thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
A defining moment thus far in my career was solidifying my career in itself, being apart of the Wellness industry. Especially as a yoga teacher. Making that choice really changed my life, changed how I interact with others, and eventually led me down my path of what Wellness looks like to and through me. Thus from there The Peace Corner was born, a Wellness Collective that emphasizes the importance of Community + Connectedness in the wellness space, and how wellness is NOT one size fits all, but something we all create for our unique lifestyles.
The interactions I’ve been blessed to have with others while in this field have affirmed me in my decision more times than not. Being a yoga teacher comes with this stereotype that yogis must have “perfect peace” or display a “perfect life” at all times and I’m here to break that stigma and show that your peace and your wellness, are both something that can be accessible to your current lifestyle, not the lifestyle of everyone else around you.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Angenae Parker-Wiley, and I’m a KCMO transplant from Houston Texas. I’m a Yoga Guide & Wellness Practitioner located in the Northlands.
I just recently relaunched my Wellness Collective, The Peace Corner, a space for all beings where we discover our own sense of wellness that’s accessible to our current lifestyle. We offer monthly virtual offerings from Yoga, Sound Healing, Reiki, Blog reads, and more from myself and (soon) other Wellness Practitioners. It’s a space created by us, for us. All are always welcome!
I also teach Heated and Non Heated classes at Vybe Hot Yoga Tuesdays and Thursdays. I love being able to share my practice with others and make them feel empowered by their own bodies and it’s capabilities.
What I’m most proud of is that I took this leap. It’s hard to believe in yourself when so many people around you are within the same field, but what I believe sets TPC apart is that we strongly believe that Wellness is not one size fits all. We meet you where you are, and where you want to be, to help you create or discover more intentional habits to integrate into your life.
We care because we’ve been there. Your wellness goals are important and necessary whether big or small,
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I had to unlearn was that “it doesn’t matter” whatever it is for you. In my case it was my brand, and my purpose with TPC. Interacting with my community and students in my classes have shown that now we need accessible wellness and advocates for whats possible if we shift our perspective, now more than ever.
Our world is constantly changing and shifting and we have to know how to nurture ourselves, deal with our emotions, life/work burnout, and how to remain within our peace. All of these things matter to better improve the longevity of your life.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My ability to not give up I feel best displays my resilience. I don’t want to stop the fight just because I’m a small collective. I want to be here for those who need someone to care beyond the usual. I don’t want you to feel you have to lead my idea of wellness, I want to help you decide what that looks like for you and your life. That way you know how to be your own savior and how to really improve the quality of your life.
