Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angellica Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Angellica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new firm – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
I remember back in 2011 I was working on a call center job and I received my potential service request!! I placed an ad on craigslist two nights before I went into my call center job. The ad was offering a braiding service, I used to do braids when I first started my hair career. I remember getting a call while I was at my job asking me was I available to do the Braids service that was posted on the craigslist ad. My first initial response was going to be, “I’m at work and I don’t get off until 5 o’clock.” But after thinking about it the craigslist ad posted was offering a service for $80, and if I’d stayed at work for another 7 hours, I would’ve only made $60! After doing the math I clocked out of my job and took my first client for $80! She is still my client to this day.

Angellica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my journey in 2011. I’ve always had a passion for hair. When my grandmother took ill she asked me if could I come over to her house and I could take my clients from there just to keep her company. At this time, hair was just a side hustle! She gave me “the yellow chair” which is really significant to my success story because she prayed over it before giving it to me. When she gifted me the chair, her words were, “you’ll never go broke using this chair, it’s your blessed chair”. I still have it to this day! She passed a few months after but her words motivated me to go FULL time with my passion! I finished 300 hours in Natural hair Care in NC in 2014 and passed my state board to become a licensed stylist. A week after receiving my license, I opened up my first salon in Raleigh, NC “Hair By Siddity Studios” and ran a successful salon for 6 beautiful years! In 2021 I decided I wanted a change of scenery so my husband and I relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC.
After being in SC for the first 4 months, I opened up a studio, “Everything Siddity Wig Studio”. I’ve been servicing in both NC and SC every week since Jan 2022.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Social media has played a big part in helping build my reputation these past few years!! Back in 2011 posting ads on craigslist in the news and observer very popular!! That is also how I gained such a huge following from the beginning.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
From the beginning I have always been a big money saver. Every time I make money I put a percentage to the side for Business purposes. By the beginning of 2015 I had already saved $10,000. Are used $5000 and opened my first salon that stayed in business for six years. From 2015 into 2021 I started setting aside $625 a week in a business funding account.
