We were lucky to catch up with Angelina Lawton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelina, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea behind what is now Sportsdigita came from my experience working for the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning as the SVP, Corporate Communications. I was in charge of everything and anything with the Lightning logo on it and there were so many inefficiencies in our process. From outdated, underwhelming PowerPoints to sellers using the wrong logo in their pitches, I knew there had to be a better way for teams to streamline sales processes and impress with our presentations. Sports is an industry built on sexy assets, live action, and competition – I needed a way to emulate that in our Lightning Pitch Decks.
Taking a risk in 2010, I started Sportsdigita with the hope of better helping teams tell their story and drive revenue. As a female trying to break into the male dominated industry of sports, I knew the journey would be challenging and would require long nights and early mornings but I was willing to do what it took to make my idea a reality. After some quick wins with teams like the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Red Wings it was clear what we created was something special – we decided to productize the solution we had built as it was helping teams win effectively in the digital world. “DIGIDECK”, a cloud-based presentation platform empowers sellers to create immersive, custom presentations in minutes with back-end tracking to know where & when each slide is viewed.
Fast forward to today, Sportsdigita now works with 450+ brands powering DIGIDECK for the biggest names in sports such as the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers and leading enterprise organizations like Visa, MetLife, and BDO.
My biggest takeaway from this entrepreneurial adventure: focus on your niche! I have seen too many companies try to be “everything to everyone.” Instead, focus on your lane, perfect your craft, and then tackle your growth.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Sportsdigita was forced to pivot around the same time most other businesses were – the Covid-19 pandemic.
When the pandemic shut down in-office work, teams were forced to transition to work from home environments and needed a way to keep sellers empowered + productive amid challenging times.
The power is in the pivot – our leadership team recognized this dramatic change in our client’s lives and wanted to refine our product to better serve them. DIGIDECK LIVE was born from the pandemic – when our team pivoted our product roadmap with agility to serve our users better and give them a way to connect remotely, in-office, or from anywhere.
DIGIDECK LIVE adds video conferencing, in-app chat, and real-time communication solutions right within presentations. Sellers can send custom proposals and connect with them in real-time over video or chat to answer questions & guide them through the sales process more effectively.
This pivot proved to be effective as it empowered teams to connect with sellers regardless of work environment or device.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I can confidently tell you Sportsdigita would not be where it is today without the power of social media. I’ve used my personal brand as a Female Entrepreneur to grow my business in digital spaces. When you’re working to build your personal brand your business will, in return, grow with you. I can’t tell you how many times I have had people come up to me at networking events and open with a line about seeing me on LinkedIn and it leads to closed-won business.
My advice to anyone just starting to grow their social media presence is to focus on perfecting your LinkedIn profile first. At Sportsdigita we look at LinkedIn as your curb appeal and its imperative for your information, brand, and content to match “you” especially if you are in the job interviewing process.
Focus on your profile pic, header, tagline, and bio section to attract potential clients, investors, or employers with your experience.
