Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angelina Cintron. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Angelina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
When you start off chasing your dreams at a young age in the music industry, you often will get many executives, higher ups, and anyone with more experience try to steer you in THEIR direction. Ive been making music since I was 12 years old. And I can confidently say that the music I’m putting out right now, at 25 years old, has been the most truest to myself. As a young, Latina women, I truly felt like in the early stages of my career I was very naive and gullible, which allowed my voice as a creative to be watered down, and held back. There’s always going to be people putting you inside of a box, whether that be genre, what you wear, or even what your brand is. This next project I’m currently rolling out is extremely special to me because it’s everything that I am. I am sensitive AND strong. I am an overthinking girl from Texas who was raised on soulful r&b and rock and roll. And I am a genre fluid artist. I made art for myself first with this project, and I know that whoever connects with it, are going to feel seen. Im calling it “5 Ever” to represent that we are eternally growing, and these songs are diary entries of my growing pains.
Angelina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a singer, songstress, producer, multi instrumentalist, based in Los Angeles. I use my songs as therapy and to organize/unpack the never ending clutter of overthinking that goes on in my head. When I was 12 I began recording in my older brother’s closet studio and that was the start of it all. The process of starting with nothing and making an entire song from a tiny idea blows my mind every time.
Some of the things Im most proud of are bringing inspiration, motivation, and light to listeners going through a tough time. Another moment that made me proud is achieving more than 1 million streams as an independent artist. And lastly getting cosigns from some of my biggest inspirations ever such as Mariah Carey, Timbaland, late Chester Bennington of Linking Park, and Russ.
I like to describe my sound as music for “sensitive gangstas”, and it is not to be defined by one genre. I hope to bring more understanding and hope to peoples thoughts when they listen to my music. I want them to feel like Im saying “I FELT THAT.”
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To me the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when I see someone in the crown singing my lyrics. I know when I find a special song, that helps me get through something, I want to learn about that artist because I know we have to have a lot in common. So to know that this person took the time to plan their day, spend their time and money on going to a show to see me perform this song live and singing it with me is such a beautiful thing to me.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that NO ONE, has this figured out. Everyone is constantly jumping, learning as they go, or figuring it out.
The older I get the more that I see through the surface level persona or ego that people first show when you meet them. Once you get to know someone and really have long conversations, we are all so much more alike than we realize.
