We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angelina Avila. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angelina below.
Hi Angelina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses
Starting a business with immediate family members has provided a great balance of pleasure and conflict. Although our lives have collectively become more productive we do have our melt down moments. We never leave the house without understanding our roles in Divine Hustles. I am the face/ host, my father is our “Dadager”, my younger sister is our videographer/editor, and our number one fan is my Mother. The 4 of us all have differentiating personalities DH has brought us together. We work, create and communicate 24/7 but, because of the consistency individual time becomes a lot more valuable. If I were to breakdown my view on family businesses in one word I would say “solid” because in my case we are stronger together.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello Everyone! My name is Angelina and I proudly represent my family oriented promotion Divine Hustles! DH all started when my world ended. Pretty ironic right? Well growing up I trained for years as an athlete to earn a UCLA scholarship. But life didn’t go as planned and I ended up spending 3 days in the ICU. My right leg went paralyzed due to a torn herniated disk out of place. According to many doctors, my spine will forever be abnormal .
The doctor’s immediately shared the displeasing news that I will never be physically capable of seriously playing sports ever again! I felt like my life was over because I devoted my everything to softball, I assumed my hard work would in turn guarantee a solid future. With first hand experience let me tell you all now, “life will never go as planned, just LIVE & LEARN” that’s all we can do as humans. So with everything lost I decided to take it to the streets and randomly ask the public what they do for a living. This action evolved when my younger sister and I decided to start filming and uploading strangers stories to YouTube. What sets us apart is that we are siblings that add a youthful and raw touch to our content creations. Our goal with all of the content we make is to inspire others to follow their limitless dreams.
Our proudest moments were gifted to us when we began our journey. We loved when small business owners would genuinely thank us for sharing their story to who ever we could reach. Those grateful palm to palm hand shakes was enough motivation to keep us going. Our message is to “Believe, Create and Keep Hustling”.
So be a dreamer and live the life you want.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
COVID birthed the self made entrepreneurs we highlighted once before. We began in September of 2019,1 year later everyone was told to stay indoors. Many people lost their jobs but that didn’t stop some. There were creatives that strived to survive and we were there to document their hustle. Covid made life difficult for many but we did our best to support everyone with any content we could share.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Community is a resource I wish I knew about earlier in my creative journey. Many I assumed would believe in my sister and I unfortunately didn’t, but it never stopped us. Divine Hustles advocates for the community whether it be volunteering or documenting the communities stories. The groups of people that fully support us are the crucial resource we appreciate.
