We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angelica Trygar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angelica below.
Angelica , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first time that I ever earned money as a creative was on an independent film set. I actually wasn’t sure if I was actually going to get paid or not. I was newer to the industry and when I first started out I found that a lot of times things would be promised, but they didn’t happen. I feel like that was mainly because I was on student film sets and I was hoping to just get the promised footage or food promised. Another actor in the industry recommended me for a role and I wanted to explore the choices that I would make as the character. I haven’t ever explored the choices I would make as a character that was a bit on the bizarre side. When I got the money it helped me out so much since I mainly survived doing gig work and door dash at the time. I realized that I can get more paid work and work with good people.
Angelica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi ! I’m Angelica!
I am someone who is always on the go and loves to keep learning. I am studying comedy around Chicago and I have a YouTube channel called Acting Savvy. I am still active in the indie film and musical theatre scene. I am someone who works hard and I am always trying to find new ways to make money as a self employed individual . I try to post new YouTube videos a few times a month to keep my audience aware of different ways to make money. I also review electronics, food services, workout plans, and more.
I started performing at a young age at my church and within my community. I realized I wanted to make performing my life as soon as I got to Oakton Community College and had professors encourage and believe in me. I am someone who won’t let adversity bring me down. Instead, I find different ways to generate income and keep my dream chasing active. What makes me different from others is my drive and my energy. I am always on the go and I am someone who can go from working a gig to an overnight film shoot. I am aspiring to teach others how to balance being a self employed individual and being able to make enough time for their passions.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew more about scholarships at reputable places. I knew of some, but as I have gotten to know more people in the industry I realized that there are so many more.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn limiting mindsets certain individuals would try to put into the minds of young adults. I look back and hate how I thought of myself as old when I was just in my early 20’s. I felt like the fact that I have felt “too old” to do certain things when I was younger definitely got in my way in the past.
