We recently connected with Angelica Taase and have shared our conversation below.
Angelica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents are both immigrants from two different countries—Mexico and American Samoa. Though American Samoa is a U.S. territory, it was still a very different world compared to living in the states. Both of my parents come from humble beginnings, each with ten siblings. Despite being younger than most of their siblings, they often became the go-to people when someone needed help. I noticed this even at a young age, which taught me that a person’s capabilities aren’t defined by age.
Growing up, I knew I could achieve anything I put my mind to. That mindset got me into trouble occasionally as a kid, but it also fueled my ambition. I witnessed the “American Dream” unfold in a unique way for my parents. While the typical path might be school, college, degree, career, marriage, dream home, and then kids (in that order), my parents’ journey was different. They weren’t born into the privilege of living in the U.S. or with English-speaking parents.
Yet, they eventually achieved their version of the American Dream—a beautiful home, my mom’s bachelor’s degree, their careers, and now, grandchildren. What they passed down to me was their ambition. That ambition was their driving force, propelling them beyond their humble beginnings because they believed the world had more to offer them—and they went for it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder of Your Legacy Project, a storytelling initiative that helps families and individuals preserve their stories through video. I’ve spent over a decade in the senior living industry, working in marketing and sales, and through those experiences, I saw how important it is to capture personal stories. This realization inspired me to start Your Legacy Project, a business dedicated to helping people share their legacies through beautifully crafted video stories.
The idea for Your Legacy Project came from my time working with seniors. I saw firsthand the value of their stories, many of which were never documented. One day, while speaking with a resident, it struck me how meaningful it would be to capture their life stories in a way that future generations could experience. This inspired me to create a service that helps families preserve their loved ones’ memories in a format they can cherish forever.
Also, I’ve expanded my career into the world of influencer marketing. I’ve grown my Instagram account as a content creator, where I connect with my audience through funny, relatable, and inspiring reels. I collaborate with brands to market their products in an authentic way, focusing on creating content that aligns with my values and resonates with my audience. My following has grown to love my ideas, my content, and my creations, and I take pride in engaging with them on a personal level.
In Your Legacy Project, we offer personalized video storytelling services. Our main service is interviewing individuals and families to document their life stories, special memories, and messages for future generations. My background working with seniors allows me to capture these stories in a meaningful way, even with those who may have dementia or memory issues.
On the influencer marketing side, I create content for brands that feels authentic and meaningful. I specialize in creating relatable, often humorous, and always inspiring reels that engage my audience. I work with a variety of brands, using my platform to introduce products and services that align with my personal brand and values.
For Your Legacy Project, I help solve the issue of preserving family and personal history in a way that’s emotional, heartfelt, and lasting. Many people regret not capturing their loved ones’ stories, and our services ensure that these memories are preserved for generations to come.
In my role as an influencer, I solve the challenge of authentic marketing for brands. My followers trust my recommendations because I approach partnerships with authenticity and only promote products I truly believe in. I help brands connect with their audience in a more genuine, relatable way.
With Your Legacy Project, what sets us apart is the highly personal, intimate approach we take in capturing stories. Every story is unique, and I work closely with each individual or family to ensure their personality and experiences are reflected in the final product. My experience working with seniors gives me a unique ability to connect with people of all ages, including those with memory challenges.
As an influencer, I stand out because of my genuine connection with my audience. My content is a mix of humor, relatability, and inspiration, and I pride myself on maintaining an authentic voice in a space that can often feel overly curated.
I’m proud of the impact Your Legacy Project has had on families. Hearing how much these videos mean to them, especially after a loved one has passed, is incredibly rewarding. I’m also proud of how I’ve grown my Instagram presence, using my platform not only to market products but to inspire, entertain, and connect with my audience.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I started gaining an audience as soon as I figured out my niche. When you find a niche that you’re passionate about, the creativity really starts to flow. It’s so important to do your research and learn how to navigate the world of social media. My advice for anyone just starting out is to SHOW UP. Post the content. Use a content calendar if you need to. Stay on brand and stick to your message.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the connection. Being able to create something, out of nothing, and make people feel joy from my creation is beautiful. Joy and connection are the most rewarding aspects of being a creative.
