We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angelica Page. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angelica below.
Angelica, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
30 over 30 project: The 30 over 30 project is about women feeling beautiful, like they belong on the front page of a magazine. My goal is to make women not only feel beautiful, but have the opportunity to be embraced and celebrated by capturing an expression of their true selves.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Colombian, born and raised. I came to America when I was 17. I was always taught to have a career that makes money, not necessarily doing what I love. So I went into accounting. I took a few semesters of that and even though I actually really succeeded in it, I found out quickly, it was not my passion. It wasn’t until one day I happened to take photos of my friend’s girls, when she told me I should go into photography because I was really good at it. I told her why should I go into photography when everyone and their mom is doing the same thing. She said, well not everybody is you! So afterward, I went home, told my husband that I thought I wanted to get into photography and he said…. Let’s go! He was so supportive from the very beginning. From there I started to do a lot of research, Googling, watching tutorials, and putting myself onto social media platforms to be criticized by other photographers…. which they definitely did. They tore my pictures to pieces with their critiques! I have to admit, I totally cried. However, it really taught me what not to do and how to take better quality images. We were stationed in Las Vegas at the time that I started my photography business. Due to my husband’s military career, we were relocated to England. I continued to expand my portfolio and learn more about the industry as well as the business side of things. We were in England for 2 1/2 years and then relocated again this time to Missouri. I started my business taking photos in my basement. I had a whole studio space dedicated to my photography business but the business in my home was distracting, so once I found a studio space, that is where I was able to see my business grow.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of my business is the flexibility it provides me to be there for my children. Being a mom who is present for my children has always been my top priority. I’m thankful that I am able to do what I love and be the mom I need to be for my kids. I”ve never enjoyed doing the same thing over and over, just like I have in the past with 9-5 jobs. Being creative has allowed me to constantly expand my horizons when it comes to exploring and pushing boundaries. By getting my clients out of their comfort zones while providing a tailored session that is unique to them, I am able to capture a one of a kind portrait for them to treasure for years to come.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal driving my creative journey is to show my clients how beautiful they are no matter where they are in their lives. You know how we tend to critize ourselves more than anyone else but other people see us in a more positive and beautiful light? I want my clients to see themselves in that same light. That is truly what I aim to do each time I take my camera to a shoot. My team is amazing. We pride ourselves on being the biggest supporters and hype team for our clients during their sessions. We are here to make sure that when they leave our studio, that they feel as if they have just left the shoot for a cover magazine.
