Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angelica Olguin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Angelica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
If I could change when I started, I would have started later. Although I don’t have any regrets, I feel I could have approached some things differently. First, I pride myself in my aesthetic and I felt I rushed to open my salon even though it was not what I envisioned. I started working and remodeling at the same time. Looking back it makes more sense to have done it before I started to ensure that I didn’t face the stress of balancing both at the same time. I also needed to learn how to manage the business component of it. After renting and being commission, I had the opportunity to own my salon and I took it. From it I learned to be patient and organized but I did not start off with these traits. Before learning this it took a toll on my mental health which led to me letting go of my first salon. From that experience I feel I am better prepared and I have now started my second salon suite.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Angelica. I have been a stylist for thirteen years and a business owner for six. I specialize in blonding technics. I am also certified to do hair extensions-tape, weft and keratin. I am happily married and have a fur baby name Sasha. My favorite snack are extra hot cheetos. I love traveling and music festivals. I also create a space for my clients where they can be themselves and we can connect.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I am nowhere near to wear I want to be on social media, but one suggestion that I normally give to baby stylists is to ask clients to give you a shout out and to reward them with something small for doing so. I also love doing giveaways on social media as a thank you to my clients and their loyalty.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best way to reach new clients is by sticking to the old ways, and that is by word of mouth. Business cards in hand are also great to have handy because you never know when you’ll run into someone that coincidentally is looking for service. Instagram is the new portfolio, so that is a great way for new clients to reach out.
