Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angelica Navarra . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Angelica , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I take the time to listen to my clients in a way that I can interpret what they aren’t saying but trying to say. I’ve been jokingly called the mind reading stylist haha. I watch body language I look at photos in depth and ask multiple questions. I dig into their everyday routine and ask about what they wish they could achieve with their hair on a daily basis and what they really do. Most importantly and above all else though, I build long lasting relationships with my clients.

Angelica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a hairstylist and makeup artist. Prior to becoming a stylist, I was in the Navy as law enforcement with dreams of working for the FBI. I ended up becoming a mom and decided a career in law enforcement wasn’t practical. I needed something flexible, high paying and interesting. That is when my mom suggested cosmetology! I admit at first I laughed it off because like many others, I didn’t see it as a real career but still I have it a chance and I fell in love. The passion, love and creativity that goes into each and every head that sits in my chair is unexplainable. There are no two days that are alike. You never know what you will be presented with and it’s never boring. With this job you make what you put into it. I want my clients to know that each and every one of them whether first timers, long timers, one and done or forever clients they have made an impact on my life and my career. I value each and every one of them and they all hold a special place in my heart. This is more than a job, it’s art, it’s therapy, it’s an escape and it’s love!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would have to say word of mouth for sure! Especially in this industry, that is your name walking out of the salon each and every time. If it looks great people want to know where you got it done if it looks bad they want to know where to avoid going. It’s a delicate thing but the most effective for sure.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Having a client tell you that you are a magician. Have them call you for the most important events of their lives so that you can make them look and feel their best. Most importantly having clients become lifetime Friends
