We were lucky to catch up with Angelica Monroy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angelica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Angie: I’ve always known I wanted to somehow be involved with music. As a little girl, that was all I talked about, all I longed for and eventually, my parents caved and agreed to get me a guitar. I’ve been writing music since I first learned how to pick up a writing utensil and the rest is history!! Listening and learning songs from some of my favorite bands have shaped me into the writer I am today. The only thing that ever stood in the way of learning would be time! Especially as we get older, time seems to slip right through my hands these days.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Ive been into music my whole life. I don’t know why or how, but it’s a language I always understood and something I knew I wanted to be a part of. Throughout my life, I’ve found myself surrounded by creatives and artists which has helped inspire me to share my art with the world. Aside from music, in general, i’ve always been an active creative child, eventually, I got into photography which lead me into doing some social media work. Being a social media specialist has played a HUGE roll in music because being able to market yourself is SO IMPORTANT!
Im most proud of the work ethic of my bandmates. The fact that we’re all able to come together and create the life we always wanted is beautiful. We came together as friends, enjoying the same music and having the same dreams and here we are now, a couple years later going on tours and seeing the world!!
The main thing id like people to know about us is that we have worked extremely hard to pave a path for ourselves. We are so lucky to have amazing friends and fans, supporting us overstep of the way and we just can’t thank everyone enough!!
We love what we do and we have a lot of respect and admiration for one another.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Can you believe that out of so much heartbreak..and I don’t just mean in relationships, but in general..
something amazing came out of it? It makes my day when I hear people talk about how our music has helped them through tough situations. That through the darkness, you’ll always find some sort of light.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal is to be able to make music and travel for the rest of our lives, while being able to pay our rent/bills.
Nothing lavish or anything.
