Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angelica Mack. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Angelica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you think about cost-management? Growing a business is always exciting, but often businesses run into issues when costs grow faster than revenue – have you experienced such an episode? Any advice for other operators around how to keep costs in line?
I’ve managed to keep costs under control by buying in bulk and finding inexpensive but quality products that last. I also like to keep track of everything I’m buying so I know how much I’m spending. I remember when I first got started doing lashes from my house, I didn’t keep track of anything. I had no idea how much I was spending or making. I can bet some of my weeks I broke even, which is awful. I needed to step into the bookkeeping & finance role in my business and learn how to keep track of my money. As an independent lash artist, I wear SO many hats and it was time to put that one on. 6 Years later and I have a better understanding of cost, expenses, and how to price my services & products properly.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the lash industry shortly after finishing college and I realized I didn’t enjoy the 9-5 office vibe very much. I didn’t feel fulfilled doing that work or being in that environment. So, I quit my job and decided to take a lash course in 2017 and fell in love with doing it. I loved the calmness I had when I did lashes and I really enjoyed building the relationships with my clients. I think that was and still is my favorite part. After I took the lash class, I immediately started taking clients from my house while I worked as a hostess at a Speakeasy in downtown Vegas. I decided to get my esthetician license two years into having my home studio. After esthetician school, I started working at a Lash Salon and became the head trainer where I traveled around the country and taught classes. That was such an incredible experience! Three years into working at the salon, I felt it was time for me to grow and become an independent lash artist again. I’ve always had a goal of having my own business and I felt ready to do it differently this time! I currently have my own salon suite in Henderson where I do lash extension services and host my own classes. It’s been a wonderful journey!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Referrals have been the most effective strategy for growing my clientele. I make sure all my current clients are always happy so that they tell all their friends and family about it!
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients through text mostly and social media. I keep the line of communication open so they know that they can always contact me if they have any issues. I think that’s how I’ve been fostering brand loyalty from my clientele. I send texts to check up and make sure everything is going good with their lashes!
