We recently connected with Angelia Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelia, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my short film “Unexplored.” It’s the most meaningful project to me because the story is surrounding love and the nuances of love. The topic of Love is very important to me, Nikki Giovanni said it best “We love because it’s the only true adventure.” “Unexplored” is the most meaningful project because I wrote a script that I am passionate about, it’s the first project I’ve written, directed, and produced. It’s special.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a Writer-director, and producer. I launched my production company “A Jackson Concept” earlier this year in Atlanta, GA. A Jackson Concept is the first step for me to solidify every creative idea I have in film. It’s also an early concept and step in the direction I’d like to move into, that’ll transform into a movement that will provide resources for other emerging and aspiring filmmakers.
I’ve always been a writer since childhood, and I started translating my writings into screenwriting and finding a way to break into the film industry in 2019.
Elevating my storytelling with each project I work on is what I’m most proud of. I want everyone to know that I am a filmmaker who truly cares about the craft and make sure to leave the proof in the details.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a filmmaker is having people connect with the work I create. I’ve had people tell me how my work has resonated with them, or helped them get through something, and that is beyond rewarding for me. I create stories because I’m passionate about it and because I love to focus on people of marginalized communities that will leave a lasting impact on its viewers.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can best support artists & creatives simply by sharing their work. It’s one of the most important and supportive things anyone can do, just share. Letting people know about a creative’s work makes a world of a difference because it looks easy when it appears that a creative is winning in their field, but each and every supporter is the reason why the creative has a platform. Every single supporter, sharing, liking, and purchasing is fostering that person’s supportive community enforcing a thriving creative ecosystem.
