Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to ANGELA TRIVINO. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
ANGELA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
I have an artistic approach to creative direction, generating narratives that create emotional connections with the audience. My years of experience in the entertainment industry as a costume designer taught me the power of visual storytelling and cultivated in me a deep and analytic eye for fashion, culture and trends.
As costume designer I dig deep into a character going beyond the script, understanding their purpose and the fascinating complexities of their identity. This sensibility that allows me to come up with unforgettable characters for a film, also leads me to unveil the most powerful layers of a brand concept and translate it into an iconic visual narrative like a photoshoot.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am equal parts Creative Director and Costume Designer, a dynamic force in the world of visual storytelling. I am passionate about the power of images and their ability to create engaging narrative experiences.
As a Costume Designer, I have over 8 years of experience in designing for films, music videos, and commercials in the Hollywood industry. My film work includes notable projects like *Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado*, featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eugenio Derbez. Premiering at Sundance and streaming on Netflix in 2020, the film was nominated for a Critics Choice Award. My earlier work includes the comedy-horror film *Fear, Inc.*, starring Academy Award-nominated actress Abigail Breslin, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016. Additionally, I have had the privilege of collaborating closely with director Samantha Shay and the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch in Germany.
In the music industry, one of the most exciting opportunities of my career was serving as an assistant costume designer for custom-made garments on Taylor Swift’s record-breaking *Eras Tour*. I have also designed music videos for artists like Mike Posner and styled commercials for major brands such as Frito-Lay, American Eagle, and Cricut.
In my role as a Creative Director, I bring a unique vision to every project by combining my costume design sensibilities with a broader aesthetic strategy. My work is distinguished by a narrative depth that resonates with audiences and clients alike. Recently, I contributed my expertise as a Creative Consultant for the latest photoshoot of Carmen, a high fashion brand launching its newest collection. Carmen’s brand is profoundly rooted in her background as a world traveler and photographer. Helping her weave these elements into a compelling brand narrative and translating them into visual concepts for the photoshoot was a deeply rewarding process.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I am driven by the desire to explore and illuminate the human condition. Wether I’m designing a costume that brings a character’s essence to life or shaping the visual narrative of a brand, my goal is to create worlds that transcend the ordinary and connect us to something larger. Its about capturing the spirit of the unseen and translating it into a universal language of imagery and emotion, reming us all of the beauty of our shared humanity.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe my ability to strike a harmonious balance between my own artistic voice and the vision that directors and producers have for a character has been key to building my reputation. I thrive on the creative dialogue that comes from interpreting their ideas while infusing my own unique perspective. This collaboration translates into a character that is not only true to the narrative but also authentic. My dedication to understanding and amplifying the story through my work has made me a trusted and valued partner in the industry, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to a wide range of projects.
