We recently connected with Angela Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
May of 2018 was a great time for influencer marketing. I spent a lot of time asking social media influencers, bloggers, and fellow business owners in for complementary services in exchange for shout outs and stories. Luckily those free Mani’s brought in a much larger audience than I had at the time, and the word of mouth continues to be invaluable.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I originally obtained my cosmetology license in 2015, after graduating with my business degree. My original goal was to do makeup, hustling lipstick at a retail counter on the side. After a family tragedy, I relocated and founded Lu.nu.la Nail Lab, affectionately called “The Lab,” after having sub par nail salon experiences myself. Nails were never the goal, but it was such a happy accident!
The Lab is a one-on-one environment, where clients are purposely scheduled and not on top of each other. Services are not rushed, and can last anywhere from an hour and a half to three hours or more. I specialize in natural nails and intricate, hand painted nail art. I started The Lab to demonstrate that not all nail salon experiences are the same; gel manicures can last just as long as dip, cleanliness is of utmost importance, and that painful nail services or a resulting infection is not acceptable.
The Lunula brand also offers a collection of nail themed retail products, such as t-shirts and mini purses.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
My personal brand strategy is to reward my current clients before anyone else. Is there a “new client special?” No. Do newcomers get a discount? Absolutely not.
Current clients are who I reward with holiday gifts and anniversary prizes. When we opened back up from the mandated COVID closures, I gave a discount to those who left reviews for the business. When I celebrated 3 years in business, my three longest running clients got Lunula swag bags. If I’m testing a new product, clients who have scheduled services get to test them out or vote.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think the resilience came, and continues to come, when thinking about the competition that is in the nail industry. There are an abundance of high, volume nail salons! When I say I do nails, people didn’t, and sometimes still don’t, necessarily understand that what I was offering was different. That my goal wasn’t to offer you a heavy pour of cheap wine and stick your feet in water while you waited for an available technician. To have the patience and resilience to explain to potential customers that not all nail salons are the same was pivotal to my success.
