We recently connected with Angela Singleton and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
My early career path saw me traveling the world as an officer in the merchant navy. I was privileged to live this lifestyle for close to 12 years. I adored the diversity and freedom that immersing myself in the world’s heritage had to offer. My love affair with international cuisine began during this time. I was fascinated by culture and food. From street food served on local carts to haute cuisine – I was hooked. Upon return to my native England, I found myself diving into cooking as a nod to all the countries I had loved. My thirst for knowledge, from provenance to nutrition was born. I quickly became self-taught and secured a position as Executive Estate Manager to the CEO of Dr. Martens (whose boots I had worn and loved growing up), from there I tried out ‘Master Chef’ style for one of England’s most prominent families, where I was appointed to manage their estate, and often cooked for them. Although I now work in the corporate world my love of cuisine still defines me.
Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Verywellplate was created just one year ago and represents my passion for easy, delicious, flavorful nutrition-focused food and recipes. I love to work with and feature organic and clean produce with a clear path to health and wellness. You will often find nutritional inspiration, information, and easy tips on my posts.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
As a busy working mother to a young son, I believe sharing my passion for nutrition is a legacy, and great education. Reaching into the lives of people I love and my followers, with healthy recipe inspiration is a great privilege. Many of us still have so much to learn about nutrition. We need more resources on how we can feed our loved ones. We need access to food inspiration, food that not only tastes great but supports our immune system, fuels health.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Receiving requests for recipes, alternative and vegan options, and advice about general nutrition always feels like a huge win. I feel so blessed that I can help others to enjoy nutritionally balanced meals that taste great and will surely shape their wellness journey.
