We were lucky to catch up with Angela Simmons recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angela , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Hi friends! I’ve always loved all aspects of design and creativity. As a hairstylist, COVID literally shut down my industry making it nearly impossible to connect and work. And like most, I needed a stream of income and outlet. Over 20 years ago before my styling career, a wonderful friend knew how much I loved creating beautiful things and inspired me to create my first floral pieces to sell. Life, marriage and motherhood happened. During Covid, I resumed creating floral wreaths for income and peace of mind. Through a request from a family member, I felt compelled to take a second leap of faith and work on my craft and people started to order for the Holiday. I decided to add home styling to my service after requests. I love “ creating cozy places and warm spaces!” As a wife of 34 years and mom of 11, I really want women to know that you can work to excel and build your business and brand. It’s never too late for second chances. We all have gifts that the world needs. The element of “ Home” is important to me. My mission is to make things beautiful, one moment at a time.

Angela , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Angela from Angie’s Home Sweet Wreaths and Design a native of Illinois. I’m a florist, designer, author, wife of 34 years and mom of 11, Over 20 years ago a friend saw my work and insisted that I become a vendor, which was “ Angie’s Swags”. Family life became the main focus, but I never stopped designing, using my home as a platform. During Covid, the hair industry like so many other businesses became crippled. As a request, I designed a floral wreath for a family member and I sold many for the Holidays. My services include floral and faux wreaths, swags, garlands, small scale table scapes, room styling etc. What makes me different is that I truly love to make a house a home. My floral wreaths say” Welcome Home”. It’s been three years and I’m still building my brand and cultivating everyday. I am proud to be a woman in business. Sometimes family obligations makes us think that we can’t. In the midst of family, I’ve had to stay focused. In any business, it’s key to keep learning and perfect our craft. Each product is affordable and beautifully created, just for you. How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
In order to fund my business I’ve resumed my stylist business and been very blessed to have family support. It takes money to build. In the very beginning of building, sometimes you break even. But just know that it won’t always be that way. The capital that I made went right back into the business. Such as supplies and my website.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my social media fan base by being consistent. As an entrepreneur I post a variety of content. Such as pictures, videos, reels and engaging with those who comment. It’s very necessary to stay current in your field . How to be better? How to produce in a timely fashion. YouTube is my best friend. There is so much free info out there, learn from others in your field. We also have to make sure that we are not so hard on ourselves. Everyone won’t like what we have to offer, but there is an audience for each entrepreneur and don’t get discouraged while waiting.
