We were lucky to catch up with Angela Scopelianos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Angela thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success in recruiting, especially in the fast-paced hospitality industry, requires a blend of resilience, adaptability, and authenticity. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of perseverance. Early in my career, I vividly remember the first time a candidate dropped out of the interview process. My boss at the time called to check if I was okay, and I was taken aback. My immediate thought was, “Of course, I’m fine—but now I have to go find someone new!” That moment taught me the importance of not getting too attached to any single outcome.
In recruiting, things can change in an instant, and it’s crucial to pivot quickly without losing sight of your goals. But beyond just being adaptable, success also means staying true to your core values. For me, that means being authentic in every interaction, whether it’s with clients, candidates, or my team. It’s about building genuine relationships based on trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to excellence.
Ultimately, success comes from balancing the ability to push forward through challenges while remaining grounded in who you are and what you stand for. It’s a journey of constant learning, adjusting, and growing—but always with a clear vision of where you want to go.

Angela, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
II’m Angela, a proud female founder, devoted mother, and wife, and the owner of Reach Recruiting, a boutique recruiting firm based in Arizona. We specialize in the hospitality industry, and I have a nationally distributed team of passionate hospitalitarian recruiters who share the same love for this field.
My journey into recruiting began with a deep passion for hospitality—a field I’ve always been drawn to due to its focus on people, service, and experience. At my core, I’m a hospitality operator, just like the individuals and companies I now work with.
At Reach Recruiting, we offer highly customized recruiting packages, tailored to the unique needs of each client, allowing us to become true partners in their success. We understand the hospitality industry inside and out because we’ve lived it. This shared passion sets us apart and allows us to connect with both clients and candidates on a deeper level.
We specialize in helping hospitality companies grow by finding the right talent that fits their culture and vision. But it’s not just about filling roles; it’s about changing lives. Every placement we make has a ripple effect—helping businesses thrive and giving candidates opportunities to advance in their careers. This is what I’m most proud of: the tangible impact we make on both companies and individuals.
For potential clients, I want you to know that when you partner with Reach Recruiting, you’re not just getting a service—you’re gaining a committed partner who understands your industry and shares your passion. We’re here to help you grow, succeed, and make a lasting impact in the hospitality world.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I started my career with a national recruiting firm, where I experienced early success. That success sparked a desire to start my own firm, but a two-year non-compete clause stood in my way. It was a daunting prospect—two years outside of the industry I loved and excelled in. I wondered how I would navigate that time and what I could do to stay productive and purposeful.
Rather than waiting it out, I chose to pivot. My long-time friend became my business partner, and together we ventured into the world of artificial intelligence recruiting—a completely different field. We built the business from the ground up, relying on dedicated cold calling and a relentless work ethic. Over those two years, we transformed it into a thriving firm.
When the non-compete period ended, I was ready to return to my true passion. That’s when Reach Recruiting was born, a firm deeply rooted in hospitality. The experience taught me that sometimes the most challenging situations are opportunities in disguise. By embracing change and pivoting strategically, I was able to turn a potential setback into a launching pad for the next chapter of my career.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My reputation in the market has been built on the strength of relationships and referrals from those who have experienced my dedication to the industry. It all started in my dad’s Italian restaurant, Garozzo’s Ristorante, in Kansas City, where I learned the essence of hospitality. My father taught me to treat everyone who walked through our doors as if they were coming to our home for Sunday dinner—a cherished tradition in our Italian family.
As I progressed through hospitality school at Cornell, then Culinary School at the CIA, and spent seven years with Hillstone Restaurant Group, I honed my skills and deepened my commitment to delivering exceptional service. Throughout this journey, I focused on building meaningful relationships, and these connections have been the cornerstone of my business.
Reach Recruiting has grown entirely through word-of-mouth, driven by the trust and respect of those I’ve had the privilege to work with. While I recognize that a large marketing campaign may be on the horizon, I consider myself incredibly fortunate that my clients continue to return to me and refer me to their colleagues, friends, and family. There is no greater honor than being trusted, and that trust is what has truly established my reputation in the market.
