We recently connected with Angela Ross and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
What a great question. As kids, we’re often focused on pointing out what we perceive our parents are doing wrong and with time, we often see how much they truly got right. One of the best decisions my parents made was to buy a home in a great south Los Angeles neighborhood where I was raised. It was a lovely community with lots of families and the neighbors looked out for one another. My friends and I didn’t always appreciate the watchful eyes of our parents, but I know now that safe, positive, nurturing environment positively impacted my life. My parents shared their love of music and books and their eclectic collections inspired my love of words, which led to my journey in communications. My mother gets “extra credit” for demonstrating that she could raise a family as she pursued and fulfilled her professional ambitions. She often said we come from a long line of strong, independent women and she demonstrated that daily.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am the founder and host of the SoCal Voices Podcast. My show features candid conversations exploring news, culture and politics that impact southern Californians. I have conversations with people from all walks of life who are making positive contributions to their communities and have compelling stories to share. Some of my guests are well-known and I love having them on the show, but I am most proud when I can amplify the voices of people who may not be as well known, but are doing great work that deserves to be highlighted.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. I’d say the mission driving my creative journey is a desire to stay curious about the world and people and to do my part to help highlight stories that can help others. One of the best aspects of having this podcast is the many people I get to meet and what they teach me about living, faith, resilience, and more.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me, is the opportunity to learn from my guests. I am energized by their stories of service, resilience and passion for their work and communities.
