We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Ramirez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
At All Cancers Matter Strong Together, our mission is deeply rooted in personal experiences and the understanding of how devastating a cancer diagnosis can be—not only for the patient but for their entire support system. Our story began with Angela Ramirez, our founder, who faced stage 4 cervical cancer three times. Each battle came with profound physical, emotional, and financial struggles. Despite these challenges, Angela discovered an unyielding strength and purpose to help others navigating similar journeys.
Angela’s fight for her life revealed significant gaps in the support systems available to cancer patients. Many individuals face hurdles beyond their diagnosis, including financial insecurity, lack of resources for basic needs, and difficulties accessing disability benefits. These struggles can strip hope from those who need it most. During her own journey, Angela received tremendous support from her family, friends, and community, including city councilwoman Denette Dunn and her friend Valida Ward. It was this network of love and strength that inspired her to create a foundation to serve others in the cancer community.
In October 2023, she established All Cancers Matter Strong Together with a mission to provide hope, dignity, and essential resources to individuals fighting cancer. Through initiatives like Hope Packs—which include hygiene products, clothing, and necessities—charity drives, and advocacy efforts, we work to alleviate the non-medical burdens cancer patients face.
This mission is personal for every member of our organization. Each team member brings a unique perspective, shaped by their own experiences with cancer, whether through personal battles or supporting loved ones. We’ve seen firsthand how the smallest acts of kindness can spark hope and inspire resilience.
Our work is not just about addressing immediate needs—it’s about creating a sense of community and belonging for those who often feel isolated. It’s about ensuring that no one has to fight cancer alone, and that every individual can face their journey with dignity and strength.
At All Cancers Matter Strong Together, our mission is meaningful because it reflects our shared belief that compassion, support, and understanding can transform lives. It’s a daily commitment to honoring those who have battled cancer, uplifting those currently fighting, and building a stronger, more empathetic community for all.
This is our story. This is our mission. Together, we are stronger.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
At All Cancers Matter Strong Together, we are more than an organization—we are a movement born from resilience, compassion, and the belief that no one should face cancer alone.
Our story began with Angela Ramirez, a mother of five and grandmother, who battled stage 4 cervical cancer not once, but three times. Facing some of the most challenging moments of her life, Angela discovered that surviving cancer meant more than medical treatment—it required an extraordinary level of support from loved ones, the community, and access to vital resources. Recognizing the gaps in care and support for cancer patients, Angela was inspired to turn her pain into purpose by creating an organization that helps others facing similar struggles.
In October 2023, Angela founded All Cancers Matter Strong Together, and today, we provide resources, hope, and advocacy for cancer patients and their families. Our services include Hope Packs filled with hygiene products, clothing, and other essentials, holiday giveaways that brighten lives during difficult times, and events that build community and raise awareness. We focus on addressing the non-medical challenges of cancer, from financial insecurity to the emotional toll of navigating a diagnosis.
What sets us apart is our deeply personal connection to the cause. Everyone involved in our organization has been touched by cancer in some way, whether through their own battles or supporting loved ones. This shared experience fuels our passion and allows us to approach our mission with empathy, understanding, and unwavering commitment.
We’re proud of many accomplishments, but one of the highlights is our ability to create real, tangible impact. Through the generosity of our community, we’ve provided thousands of dollars’ worth of essential items to those in need. We’ve helped individuals find dignity in their most difficult moments, and we’ve built a network of support that reminds every cancer patient that they are never alone.
For those who may be reading about us for the first time, we want you to know that All Cancers Matter Strong Together isn’t just an organization—it’s a family. We believe that every small act of kindness contributes to a larger purpose, and we invite you to join us in making a difference. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, your support helps us continue to serve those who need it most.
Our goal is simple yet profound: to bring hope, compassion, and community to every individual and family touched by cancer. Together, we are creating a world where no one fights alone, and every life is valued and uplifted.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We hope our mission resonates with you as much as it does with us, and we look forward to the opportunity to make a difference—together.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When we first started All Cancers Matter Strong Together, we believed that if we worked hard enough, we could manage everything ourselves—from planning events to providing support to patients and their families. The drive to handle it all came from a place of passion and commitment to making a difference, but we quickly realized this mindset was unsustainable and counterproductive.
The backstory lies in our early days, when our small team tried to juggle every aspect of running the organization. We stretched ourselves too thin, often feeling overwhelmed and under-resourced. Despite our best efforts, we started to see that we weren’t able to serve our community as effectively as we wanted. Trying to do it all on our own created bottlenecks and left little room for innovation or growth.
The turning point came when we reached out for help—whether it was recruiting volunteers, collaborating with other organizations, or delegating responsibilities to passionate individuals who shared our vision. By opening up and leaning on others, we learned that true strength lies in teamwork and trust.
Unlearning the belief that we had to do everything ourselves was liberating. It allowed us to focus on what we do best while empowering others to contribute their unique skills and perspectives. Today, our organization thrives because of this collective effort. It’s a lesson we’re grateful for because it not only helped us grow but also reinforced the core value of community that our mission is built on.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When we launched All Cancers Matter Strong Together, we knew that social media would be a powerful tool for raising awareness, connecting with the cancer community, and rallying support for our initiatives. However, we also realized that building an engaged audience wouldn’t happen overnight—it required authenticity, consistency, and a focus on meaningful interactions.
We started by sharing our story and mission in a raw and heartfelt way. Personalizing our content was key; we highlighted Angela Ramirez’s journey with cancer and shared stories of hope from the individuals and families we supported. These posts resonated deeply with people because they weren’t just updates—they were human stories that inspired connection and compassion.
Another strategy that helped was showcasing our work through photos and videos. Whether it was assembling Hope Packs, hosting events, or handing out holiday giveaways, we made sure to capture and share those moments. Visual content made our mission tangible and allowed our audience to see the direct impact of their support.
We also actively engaged with our followers by responding to comments, sharing their stories, and encouraging them to tag us in their posts. Collaborations with other organizations, local businesses, and influencers in the cancer community amplified our reach and helped us tap into new networks.
Advice for Those Starting to Build Their Social Media Presence:
1. Be Authentic: People connect with real stories and genuine passion. Don’t be afraid to show vulnerability or share why your mission matters to you.
2. Stay Consistent: Post regularly, and maintain a consistent tone and style so your audience knows what to expect from you.
3. Engage Actively: Social media is a two-way street. Respond to comments, ask questions, and interact with your followers to build a sense of community.
4. Leverage Visual Content: Photos and videos are powerful tools. Use them to tell your story, showcase your impact, and create memorable content.
5. Collaborate: Partner with like-minded individuals or organizations to expand your reach and add value to your audience.
6. Focus on Value: Always ask yourself, “How does this post serve my audience?” Whether it’s educating, inspiring, or entertaining, your content should provide something meaningful.
Through these efforts, we’ve built a growing and engaged social media community that not only supports our mission but actively participates in it. Social media isn’t just a platform for us—it’s a space where connections are formed, hope is shared, and collective action takes place.
